I've just bought some new wheels for my w124, a daft ebay impulse buy, and the fronts have 225/45/17 tyres and rears 235/45/17 and I'm curious if this would cause any issues? They won't arrive until next week, so just planning ahead.

I'll probably get new 235/45s on them after a refurb but was hoping to run them for a couple of weeks to see how the ride was affected before spending on new tyres and refurbs etc will this cause any issues, or just look a bit funky?

225/45 x 17 is the size AMG used and I'd expect that to work OK at the front though you may get a little rubbing depending how stiff your suspension set up is. I don't think you'll have any problems running 235s at the rear and 225s at the front

Common tyre sizes so you can always sell them - 225/45 fits the BMW E46 and 235/45 the E39

Good to know. I was looking at alloywheelsdirect.net and have 235/45r17 listed as the correct size for the w124, but I guess I can test both sizes for fit and see which works best. I was more worried about the discrepency of rolling radius front to back.

I can always sell the wheels on if they don't work.

Thanks Nick and Jay. I was rather stupidly thinking the ASR may have had a hissy fit, but of course thats rear wheels only, so as long as I have the same size left to right Ithink it will be o.k short term. Fitting odd sizes on the same axle, is however not beyond my repetoire.

I'm building up quite a stock of wheels that don't really work on the w124. I fear another set may be heading for the depths of my shed, never to resurface!

225/45 17 will be fine on the front. Ours runs this size on AMG alloys. Never come close to rubbing. I think the 235/45 17 is not quite correct. The MB wheel catalogue states 225/45 17 as the correct size.

Thanks GP801, I suspected Nick was probably correct and alloywheelsdirect chart was a little off. Just the offset to deal with now....

Is it monoII were talking here??Just curious
As ^ you`ll have no problems with that size tyre,I`ve 245/45 at the rear of my one without any problems

I am about to pick up some brabus monoblock Vs 17x8 et30, I wasn't sure they would fit or not. If I roll the fenders can I run 225/45s all around?

thanks!

I've got 215/45ZR17s on the front and 245/40ZR17s on the rear which is a much greater differential than you are contemplating. Works fine and looks good.
