Having ordered the 280 cdi sport ,does anyone have an Idea as to what mileage I should get from Tyres,Brake pads 70000miles over 3 years.Driving is very modest(very little hard braking and mix of driving roads).Over the normal servicing costs what should I xpect to pay for?,life od brake discs and timing belt spring to mind.Anything else?Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

BArry :)

I've had services at 19K, 30.5K, 42K and 57K miles. The last service costing £450 and they didn't change much over standard other than the fuel filter. The brake fluid had already been one under warranty.

I've had two sets of tyres, one at 25K and one at 53K miles, which I was pretty impressed with.

No timing belts.

From what I can remember I've had two sets of front pads, and one set of rears. The rears are looking low now though at 58K miles. I would consider my driving to be 'hard' though rather than modest :)

I've just had my 3rd service at 42k and I'm on my 3rd set of rear pads and 2nd set of fronts. My tyres are my second set and still appear ok.
I do drive hard and sometimes carry a fair amount of weight in the boot so that probably contributes to the brakes wearing quickly.

Forgot to say I've managed to get through two complete sets of discs as well.

Any brake discs?any idea of the cost of the first 3 services, roughly?

Barryh - Have you asked for a quote for a servicing and maint package?
I was quoted £115+VAT (without tyres) for my C270, based on 90K over 3 yrs. It seriously nearly put me off buying the car. However I did, but didn't buy the package, so I'm keeping everything crossed! For lower mileages, I have seem some attractive prices. The harder driver you are, the more worthwhile these packages would be.

FleetNewsNet has a running costs guide - it diesn't have the C280 yet, but C270 should be close enough: http://www.fleetnewsnet.co.uk/running_costs/window/index.asp
but the figures look low compared to people's real world experiences.

Thanks ,I use this site, but it doesen`t have specific model and 280 sport has 18" wheels.I have a full maintenance Quote for £74 +vat.Seems ok looking at tyre prices.this is for 70K and includes Tyres.

I can't remember sorry, I lease the car so I don't have the receipts.

That's not bad - but check there's no restriction on how long the tyres have to last (we've had company lease cars where they surcharged if the tyre was changed under 30,000) and that you can have exactly the same (or your choice) of tyre - again, some companies try to fit budget tyres.

If you're happy with the answers then it seems a reasonable deal - depending on your driving style you're likely to need at least a couple of sets of tyres. If you where to get through 3 sets, and you use lots of brake pads / disks etc then it's a no-brainer (but you won't know that until the end!). The peace of mind value would probably tip the balance for me.

One other thing (if this is your own, rather than company car) make sure the deal's flexible if your circumstances change. My company got bought out 2 wks after I bought my car - I'm still there, but my car use pattern is very different now.

I've never had any problems with tyres, my previous Lexus got through a set of tyres every 12K miles but the lease company never complained. I've also always insisted the same replacements as OEM and the lease companies have always agreed.

Thanks for these replies.I am using the same company as before when I had a bmw 320d,and had no problems.Tyres did last a whooping 48K.
