Hi all ,

Due to my laptop dying ( i have a new drive on order ) i have lost all my favourites.

I can't seem to find the Russian VIN site , and recently a member posted about another site ( American ) where you can put in the cars numberplate and it will give you the VIN .... I just can't find it either ...

Not the RAC site , or the DVLA one ...

Can anyone help ?

Many thanks

H

Malcolm beat me to it!

And the other one ?

it had annoying music that played over the top of everything , but it literally recognised any make of car from the numberplate , and gave you the VIN ...

Thanks all ...

I am not very good at finding things, it takes almost 30 sec for my links page to scroll there are so many that is excluding the MB links

It was only posted within the last couple of months , but i just cannot find it !!

I've tried every combination of keywords that i can think of and still can't find it

Malcolm , i could kiss you !! :bannana:

Been tearing my hair out here !!

I thought you said you had a backup Howard?

Did you not backup your favourites folder?

Ummm ..... didn't know you could :o

Well I am stupid because I have no back up for bookmarks or anything else and this computer is from 02 and on its 3rd power supply and 3rd HD and its had 5 fans

I will think about it in the morning

Sure you can, they are kept in your user folder in a sub folder called favourites. :)

You can copy the contents anywhere you like, move them between PC's, keep them on a memory stick or whatever.

It may be you inadvertently backed them all up anyway. Worth checking .

All but the very latest HD's are mechanical and extremely delicate. The propensity for failure is very high.

I cant say it enough, backup your data or you'll one day lose years and years of important stuff.

Didn't do it ..... I'm sure .... didn't realise it was there , just took the obvious stuff , photos and what not ...

I recently had my main harddrive fail, and lost a crap load of work (Im a freelance web developer, so you can imagine what that meant!)

Luckily I was able to freeze the drive over night and recover most things the next day with about 20 minutes of life from the drive before it gave up again. I still havent gotten a dedicated backup drive though

backup to an online backup company.

This way, your covered for all eventualities.

I thought about that, but the amount of time it would take to upload my files, and then download them if needed puts me off (Even on my 20mb cable line).

Im thinking of getting a shock/fire proof enclosure with a nice big fat drive instead.
