I have some rust on the arches ,i took my car to dealers today they said they cannot do anything because i should have taken the rust issues with the trader i bought the car off.
I have had the car 3 weeks it is a c270 2001 with full Mb service history.
Can somebody as what i should do.
Many Thanks

Sit it out until 6 months have passed, or try a more lenient dealership.

Bodywork

Hi, Take the car to the main agent with your vehicle log book and the service history (does not matter if non Merc) show the service manager the vehicle and if within 8 years of manufacture (not registration) it should be covered by MB warranty whereupon they will record the corrosion by taking pictures and forwarding to Esko labs for assessment. Esko Labs are Merc's official assessor you cannot contact them other than through MB Milton Keynes. If the corrosion is due to damage or stone chips they will not honour any repairs.

Good luck it worked for me (see my post today).

Go directly to a MB approved body shop and NOT Dealership (who will do everything possible in their power to be awkward and turn the claim down).

does anybody know any bodshops in West Yorkshire.

:) MB approved bodyshop require main agent or only MB authorised garage to approve your claim (so take all your docs as they will take copies) this HAS to be ratified by ESCO labs prior to MB repairer undertaking repair on your vehicle.
Watch out for service manager saying your corrosion is due to stone chips etc when corrosion is due to poor materials/processes, check other parts of the panel for corrosion. Lift up rubbers etc and check inside boot areas etc etc as if corrosion is in one area it is likely to be found elsewhere. When repairs are carried out it is best to get them all done at once as opposed to repeat visits as paint fades and your pride and joy may resemble Josephs dream coat by the end.
Don't be afraid to disagree with MB, ESCO labs, dig in stand your corner, get copies of information and pictures sent inc dates before it is forwarded for approval. The garage will be notified by ESCO labs re: repairs in a matter of days (2-3) concerning approval or not so do not leave awaiting a reply keep on their case.
There is no real money in corrosion repairs for the agent or bodyshop hence lack of motivation to get things sorted at some garages hence you being fobbed off and rusty cars are not good adverts on their forecourts.
For corrosion do check seams, paintwork edges, underneath panels if you can or if you can get the car in the air on a ramp thoroughly inspect the car or get an independant recognised, competant, qualified, body shop (preferably using a snake eye camera for awkward inspection areas) to undertake a producing a report on your behalf as MB approved repairers get paid a set fee for repairs based upon set MB time scales per job which work out to be really tight time scales for repairers so quality may get missed hence the number of posts about reoccurring corrosion. Do not accept second rate work, when they take the car record the mileage, fuel guage, and ask for a courtesy car, and v. important obtain a copy of the work to be done (like when you collect/deposit a hire car) as cars can suffer damage whilst in the hands of a third party and any evidence you have to corroborate damage incurred whilst the car is not in your possession is power to your elbow for getting them to return the car without additional damage being incurred.
If you are unsure as to recognising the quality of repair completed take with you a bodyshop trained person to inspect your car as when the car is returned as they will see faults a mile off which an untrained person may not.
Good luck perseverence pays.
Chris :D

MB authorised body shops submit their claims directly to MB for authorisation and don't need Dealers do to do anything really. When I went down the warranty route I just went straight to the MB approved body shop and did not even go down the Dealer route.

could somebody who are MB approved Bodyshops in west Yorkshire. Thanks

The only authorised MB bodyshop I could find is in North Yorkshire:-

John Gill Ltd
Aiskew Garage, Aiskew, Bedale, North Yorkshire DL8 1DD
01677 423134

Another search in Yell.com found this which I guess is a dealer:-
Mercedes-Benz of Sheffield

Units 7 & 8, Manor Park Industrial Estate, Kettlebridge Rd, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S9 3AJ

Tel: 0114 242 8800
Classification: Car Body Repairs

There must be some others hopefully someone will post another suggestion soon:o

How can I find out authorised MB bodyshops?

How can I find out authorised MB bodyshops?

Type "mercedes authorised body shop repairs" into google. Select the UK only option as well. You could also add a location in the search string.

Unfortunately this technique is a bit crude. Yell.com has a search facility also. There must be other ways of doing this?

I was rather hoping someone would come on with a list of repairers and perhaps some recomendations..... time yet I suppose:)

where did this 8 year warranty come from?
As far as I am aware when I got my car in 2003 there was no 8 year warranty.
I believe the 8 year was for cars prior to 1999 (no MB service history required) and subsequent cars adopted the 30 year warranty (MB service history required), have Mercedes moved the goal posts?

The rust that will be catered for will be paid for by MB or would one have to pay for it?

Would this apply on a 1998 E-class?

Don't take NO for an answer. Ive been down ths road a couple of times where they refused to repair my car even though it has FMBSH and it was 1999.

I kicked up a big stink and didn't gie up, and on both occasions they eventually agreed to repair the car.

desilva, is that in reply to my question or ice

Lets make 1 thing clear, the 30 year guarentee is for structural/chassis rust.

Its ONLY 8 years for exterior panel rust. I know there is alot of confusion but i've spoken to MB colindale and M&A coachworks. They both have stated when my Mobilo 8 years run out next year on my W210 i'll have to start paying for my yealry rust removal

I think its time someone read the fineprint as i was under the impression it was 30 years. My friend has a car covered by Mobilo which is just over 8 years old, his rust claim was refused on several attempts due it being outside the warranty period.

Trying to get a claim from MB has got significantly harder in the last year. Good luck.

Hi Nav

Not according to the Mobilo document that I have in my possession which came with the car. According to the document, it is not specific to the structure / chassis and distinctly states that the car is covered for 30 years from rust coming from inside out.

I produced this document when mine was rejected and they suddenly went quiet and agreed to repair.

Yes they will try and refuse you as they really don't want to pay for a whole load of rusty W210a and W202s.

However, if you take this to the top, they will yeild.

This 8 year term has appeared from no where.
Wasn't in existence in 2003 - I still have the Mobilolife brochures and it only mentions 30 years - they have moved the goal posts.

I believe there was a 8 year unconditional corrosion warranty for cars prior to 1999, after that MB introduced the longer conditional 30 year warranty (conditional on you having services with MB)

I think that is the bottom line. For years we have predicted that the 'Goodwill' will gradually be phased out. I have not heard of any eight year bodywork warranty, nor a thirty year anti rust warranty?

What I think we have is a thirty year warranty which will make good any corrosion that comes from the inside of the bodywork, out-wards?? Most of us see a bubble and automatically believe this is a sure indication of rust penetrating from the 'inside' and coming through the metalwork. The reality will usually be that this bubble has formed between the paint and the metal. Unfortunately this is not what Mobilo officially covers, but for a number of years they have authorised goodwill repairs.

My own opinion is that rust issues on certain models are nothing short of being a disgrace, but for how long do we hold Mercedes responsible? :o :)
