Hi Simon, welcome to the forum.

Please TURN OFF THE CAPS LOCK!!!!!

You will find you will get a better response if you type normally, all capitals is hard to read and is regarded as SHOUTING on forums!!

Rust

I totally agree with you, my 97 C200 sport has the same issues with regards to rust. Most of my friends drive Audi's, in which they constantly hound me with small talk of how audi's are so good and that mercedes are unreliable, but the majority of the conversation always leads to the rust issue.

I was on the look out for an AMG, either a C36, E36 or C43. the first car that i looked at was a silver, black leather E36 P-reg. i brought one of my friends along as i knew that the performance of the car alone would shout him up for a while as many people don't know the distinguishing features of an AMG, as the car looks so conservative.

On inspection of the car; again rust was seen along the wheel arches and in the normal places etc. So again he had a dig at me. But trust me, the guy selling the car did put he's foot down, so at least my friend did see the performance side of the car as well as how stable and how well built the car was; at least that shout him up.

First off I am very sorry to read about the terrible, terrible state of the vehicle. Unless a bodywork type warranty was taken out at the time of purchase then unfortunately it is not covered by any of the latest Mobilio type warranties.

Sorry to answer your question in such a negative way, I am sure a lot of questions are being asked at the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz as to what has gone wrong, but will it be of benefit to owners of early 210's?

Kind regards,
John

Mobilo-Life paint warranty became effective on 24/10/1998 ;)

Even if you are not covered by warrenty they (MBUK)just might fix it for you, but it depends on what your local dealer is like. Some guys are having problems gtting the rust repairs done even though they are covered by Mobilo-Life paint warranty, yet others, (myself included) have managed to have extensive work carried out without cost or problems.
It is crazy, if you go to your local dealer and ask, you may be luckey like me.
I had a scetchy service history and had never used the dealer that carried out the repairs, yet they replaced 3 doors the boot lid and repaired the rear 1/4 on both sides, I had to pay for the front wings and bonnet as they had been repaired by another company after an accident and paint was to thick to be origional, I also had to get the roof resprayed at my expense as they wouldn't accept that was due to faults in their paint

Good luck

Hi jimti,
I was trying to remember your name so I could paste a link to your previous post on this subject.

As you say, fingers crossed.

I love stories with happy endings.
John

A very hot, sticky afternoon in Torquay
