what should i do ?have there been previous post Weld or Fibreglass..

Theres holes there not falling off..

Whats the process for getting sill covers off?

thanks

Hi, I had a similar experience with my car about a year ago - scared the hell out of me!!
I found a good independant garafe that carried out welding and had them sorted. I removed the plastic side panels to save on the labour.

Did the garage put external plates on ?

Anyone recommend someone in Manchester

How much did it cost and how long did it take ?

Thanks

Hi,
I paid for about 3 hours labour (which amounted to about £100) and the rusty metal was removed and plates welded in the space left. they even sprayed the work white to match my car! Would have been more if I hadn't removed all the sill covers first.

Take it to Chris Murphy at Gratts, 34 Croft Street Clayton Mcr. Highly recommended by many Mercedes-Benz Club members.Might not be cheap, but good work rarely is.

Do let us know how you get on at Gratts, please.

Spoken with Ian at W124

I decided to give Ian@W124 a quick call re service of my e280 estate and briefly asked about Jack repair...apparently he is a coded welder and does jacking points...so thats were I'll be going all under one roof..

service, checkup and welding... waiting for 150k to appear on clock..then over she goes..

Will take pictures and let everyone know how it goes..

I'd be more worried about the jack going through the car if the jack point is rusted out. If that happens the car will fall down "onto" the jack and if any part of you is under the car like when changing a tire etc., you might be injured. Plus it can be real pain in the rear to get a car off the ground if the car falls off the jack when you have a wheel off of it.

Ian did one of my jacking points. Very neat looking job :thumb:

if its a 124 chassis, the metal pannel of the sill rotts off, but the tube for the factory jack stays very solid, so there is not much chance of the car falling, it is more cosmetic, but i'm sure also an mot fail.

i did all of mine a couple of years ago, not a big or difficult job.

less than one hour each (not includig strip and replace of sill cover)

One of my front jacking points is clearly failing on my E300TD.
The tube is clearly displaced.
A bit sad really.
Haven't had this trouble since my days with an Austin Mini !!
