S320
Hi all,

I have purchased an update DVD for the navigation of my S320. I have tried to update my system but have received an error message and i wondered if anyone else had uncounted the same problem while updating theirs, and if so what was the cause.

I loaded the DVD into the tray and confirmed i wanted to update from version 4 to version 13.

It then began to upload for approximately 8 minutes which equated to about 5% of the progress bar.

I then received an error message "Map update not possible. The DVD is being ejected..."

Any advise would be much appreciated, as I am unsure if it's the car or the DVD that's at fault.

I had to have a firmware update by a MB indie before I could update the maps on my S211

Tom

a) Its worth having the latest firmware on W221 as it fixes a load of stuff and gives birdseye view on the map.
b) Ive seen above when the laser in the dvd drive is failing.
c) As firmware updates happen from the DVD drive, i'd be very very careful if the laser is failing. If the firmware update fails in the middle then you can brick the unit.

Richard

Thanks Richard.

I will have to look into this as it appears i need to update the filmware, but if your right and it is the laser then it could work out expensive. The car has only done 23K miles, so i'm hoping the disk drive hasn't had much use (although anything can fail at an time).

Thanks for your reply.

I purchased a mercedes map disk and updated my 57 reg s320,I also went from version 4 to the latest version, I had no trouble,it took about 45 mins to load it,my worry was I had no idea if I had the latest firmware update, the latest one for that was 2009,not sure how you can tell what firmware you have,my car was a low mileage mercedes in those days so maybe the firmware was updated,I would put a cleaning disk in it cannot hurt and make sure the battery condition is fully charged then give it another try.

Many thanks for that, it interesting to know you didn't have a problem. I've not had time since to have another go, but will certainly clean the lens and give it another shot this weekend. I am just caution of what Richard said, regarding a possible laser problem.

I would say as your car is a very low mileage example that you would be unlucky to have a laser go wrong,I wondered if you used the car on a daily basis, and if not maybe the battery running all the goodies in the car is a bit weak, maybe if you can stand the waste of fuel you could try leaving the car running while the disk is doing it's job.I must say I have never been good with updating anything and expected the worst only to find it all went well even so I sat there for the whole 45 mins it took.

You're lucky it only takes 45 mins - the NTG4 in my S204 takes 2 1/4 hours and 2 DVD's, have to keep the ignition on to stop Comand shutting down, so I connect my battery charger before starting an update!

It's hardly used. Although when i tried to update the map it had done approximately 250 miles the previous day. I will try updating it again after i've had it on a run, and i'll keep the engine running and see what happens.

I'm not in a major rush to update it, it's just my luck it didn't update straight away.

Thanks again for everyone's advise.
