hi there,
I need your help. please I spent more than 3 grands for a problem. The problem not solved yet.
My car a 2005 clk has big big problem. everythin is o.k until I NEED ACCELERATION. When the clock comes at 6000 per minute the car losses all pouer.
I do not know what to do. the mechanic change the coils. here in Cyprus it cost 100 euros each. then he change the ... and then the .......... and then the............ .
The mechanic told me that each time he change something the computer shows nothing else problem.
My problem still remains. when i want acceleration and i reach 6000 the car loses all pouer. I hear a strange noise like atractor and then the car drives like a tractor. any suggestions? ( i have to tell you that the each time i reach the 6000 the red light of the engine is coming on)

PLEASE PLEASE HELP

I think at 6,000 rpm it's time to change up a gear

Dear tpwuk,
Yes it does rev more than 6000. But as mentioned above The garage is delivering the car with a card saying that all is o.k (after they change something). But when I accelarate to 6000 rpm the engine lamp lights and i loose all the power.
If a clk had a turbo I was going to be sure that the turbo has problem.
any ideas?

I dont know if this helps, but for my two pennies worth. . could it be as simple as a knock sensor which is picking up vibration around 6,000 rpm and thus dumping the engine into safe mode? (or even engine over-rev, which "sticks" when you hit 6000)

Just that I had one go on my SL600 a few years ago and the symptoms sound almost the same, but I stand to be corrected by better people than me.

Good luck

the rpms redline starts at 6000 and finish at 8000.
Today the car was going at 4500 rpm with 180 k/h round 120m/h. and made the same problem. Until 179 was o.k sudently loose power.
I remove the key. I left it for 5 to 10 minutes and then i restart. everything was o.k.
The car rest for couples of hours and then i accelate. same problem. Engine lamp and loose power.
Before some minutes i started it again everything was o.k

The red line is there for a reason surely? I'm not babysitting anyone, I just find the thread quite bizarre. Who would want to take a cars engine above and beyond the red line?

I see your point but I just thought if the car was meant to go past it and it doesn't because of one thing or the other then the OP needs a solution as opposed to the legality/issue of going past the red line.

Legality? Eh?? There's no crime being suggested here. I didn't think the revs were supposed to go past the red line??? Is it even possible with an automatic gearbox?

220 CDI not possible for a red line to start at 6000 rpm and end at 8000 rpm the rev limiter would cut in as soon as you hit the redline it is mandatory to stop the engine over revving even if you use manual shift
think this guy needs to think about what he expects from his 220 CDI
perhaps he should have bought a CLK black series instead !

Clive

can you find out the fault codes ? it shouldnt be 2 hard 2 sort out .if its a 271 engine have the timing chain checked and get all the intake system checked for leaks.send me the fault codes il check it out in work

dear cklclive,
You didn't notice that is not the 220 cdi has problem. the car is a clk 240.
Anyway, Since I gave so much money to the garage i was expecting that the car was going to be just fine.! (Just for the record, the car has made this problem and at 4500 rpm.)
Skipperdog i will find out the fauld codes and i will sent it.
Guys thanks for your help. It's a big problem for me and i want to solve it.So any, any help will be welcome

cheers.!

are you sure the garage changed the coil packs as it sounds very much like it could be the problem. i had something similar myself. i ended up having 2 coil packs changed.
