s.o.s clk

the gearbox is automatic.
I contact the garage. They told me they do not remember the codes.(strange i know). But they told me that the computer shows that they change the coils. if i remember correct it was 6.! and they also change the catalyst.

The garage will tell me how they will proceed tomorow.
So any ideas will bemore than welcomed..

Am coming back to my post since the garage canot find the problem.
As mentioned above THE CAR CLK 240 V6 automatic 2.6 has problem at high rpm.
At 4500 rpms and with 100 m/h the car loose power and the engine light is getting on. Also this problem cames when the rpms are getting near 6000.
The garage told me that they have change coils, catalyst.
I have told them to check the timing chain and the intake system AS SKIPERDOG SAID.. They answer to me that there is no Intake system and no timing chain.(IS THAT REAL? SINCE I DO NOT BELEIVE THEM!!!!!)
So any other ideas?

Have you checked the MAF ?

Have you check the MAF ? (Air flow sensor), this would not always show a fault and could be the problem. Check the MAF, and also if its an "Original" part as the chinese and others dont work too well. :thumb:

If this was their response I would find another garage! No intake system:doh: !! No Timing Chain:doh::doh:!!
Seriously this garage is taking you for a ride.

Are there any other symptoms such as poor running or poor fuel economy?

The suggestions of the MAF being faulty is highly likely, they appear to be a common failure.
Try unplugging the MAF, unfortunately I don't have any pictures but search on here and you should find something. If you unplug it and the problem goes away that should be pretty conclusive, just get a genuine replacement.
You should't run without the MAF plugged in for long, this is just a test not a solution.

I have the same intermitant problem on a W215 CL500. I cannot use heavy throttle up a steep hill (i.e. putting maximum load on the engine) otherwise the check engine light will come on and the engine will go into limp mode - very anoying when halfway up a steep hill and you lose all momentum!

Reading the fault codes show a spread of cylinder misfires and the code for "random misfires". I've had the MAF replaced with a genuine Bosch one after the problem first showed when it was a lot more prevalent. No other codes appear. Turning the engine off and on again resets the limp mode and after 3 restarts without incident the check engine sign disappears.

I never feel any misfires, the first sign of anything wrong is when the limp mode kicks in. I've had to replace a plug wire due to high resistance prior to the problem so I'm thinking that the others must be slowly breaking down, they are over 10 years old and originals. I'm monitoring what cylinders the misfires are occuring on in case there is a set pattern, it's all I can do at the moment, if the misfires are truely random then I might suspect a vacuum leak around the MAF/throttle body junction, I've known these joins to be problematic on other cars. I cannot rule out coil packs but plugs look okay...

The point about the knock sensors activating the limp mode is interesting but I see no evidence in the fault codes.

The minute my CLK touched the red line the limiter kicked in even though there was more to give could be the same problem? Do we know for sure it's an auto? Just had mine remaped to take it into the red rather than on the edge, this had the benefit of reducing the 0-60 time as it now happily goes past 60mph in 2nd gear (manual)

I had the same problem and my Cats had broke down inside and where stopping the flow..

Thank you!
I told them to check the MAF.
I will be in touch with you to see what happened.!
thank you once more for your help.
