. The braking recall is evidently a fine tuning of the P005 SBC Recall. The parameters need to be reset or some such gobble de gook. I then asked if there was a problem with the SBC brakes. NO was the clear answer, I was assured that this was definitely NOT a safety issue. It is in NO way connected to any safety issue whatsoever and quite simply an adjustment of parameters.

My vehicle is now booked in to have the upgrades on the 12th January, the car will be collected and a courtesy vehicle left here.

John

My understanding is that the SBC control accept xxx many brake actuations then switches off. The changing of the parameters disables the switch off count.

Changing the brake fliud doesn't apply to all vehicles so is probably down to suspect quality brake fluid. probably shampoo and sugar mix from Cuba. :)

Do you have to asks for these 'enhancements' to be applied or do they do it automatically when the cars in for a service? Mine's going in on monday for a B service and I wasn't sure if I need to ask them.

They are being done as a matter of course, and without telling owners if at all possible.

Dieselman is quite correct. The upgrades will be carried out as a matter of course. My dealer was quite surprised that I knew and wanted to know where I had found out the information. ;) ;)

I was under the inpression that the first SBC upgrade (P005) had the counter thing. I believe the bleeding of the brake system was an unnecessary public relations exercise.

I was informed by my dealer that it was a counter threshold. the design life of the SBC pump valves was set at an expectation of 250,000 brake activations. some early delivery German tax drivers had exceeded this level after two years. On inspecton of the pumps/valves after this volume of usage Mercedes found there to be no deteriation in performance of the SBC system. my understanding of the rdecall is that they disable the counter as failure on a normal car is likely to be 10 years + away, and will probably deteriorate slowly much like a normal servo. I am also led to believe that without SBC the system is still well above the required legal braking reqirements, and far exceeds a normal car when the servo fails. All in all, i'm not worried about brake failure on my car.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your posts and I for one believe that what you have described is the actual 'recall' that we have all received. It does indeed appear to be a belt and braces exercise and not a cause for concern. My vehicle has now had a second 'notification' for the SBC, but sadly I have no idea what was involved.

I am delighted with the car and do not want to give the impression of nit picking when Mercedes-Benz are carrying out these notifications\upgrades.

John

Sounds like your vehicle has more 'notifications' than mine. Mine had four and was in for two days. The service advisor stated that some vehicles needed up to eleven.

Good luck with the courtesy car,
John

all this work must be costing MB a fortune ... does that explain the high prices
