Hi.

I've decided upon an S211 this time around. Gone from S124, to S210 so it's only natural to get an S211 this time.

Had 300 multivalve on the S124.
Had 220 CDi on the S210

There are several that I'm considering but I'd appreciate your input as to which engines are best and which to avoid!

I'd also be interested in hearing about your real life MPG figures from the various engines. I was averaging about 46 mpg from the S210

Choices between>

E220CDI
E270CDI
E320CDI

Thanks!

Tim.

I am about to take the same step and have been advised to get the 350. I would really like the 500 but may not be able to find the right one.

Have owned both engines 2X OM613 320cdi E classes 210 and 211 and 1X OM642 in the Vito.

The V6 642 may be a little quieter and is lovely and smooth but I can never get away from the straight six 613. If well looked after, they'll run forever and they go like stink!

I am a recent new owner of a 2003 S211 320cdi (3 months now) upgrading from a S210 E300. The 2 cars are not really comparable, its old technology v new technology. S211 is full of toys like Comand, on board computer, sports driving modes ( which I have not yet used) parking sensors. good sound system, heated /cooled seats, an engine that does 1-100 in seconds and some amazing Bi xenon lamps that puts the old 210 ones to shame. By far the most noticeable change is the frugal fuel consumption, almost 50 to a gallon on a recent trip to Scotland and I was not hanging about. The only thing I find I do not like is the fact that the old Elegance had a softer suspension set up as opposed to the present Avantgarde, even with its Airmatic suspension and comfort setting. But then the tyres are also of a lower profile. But no doubt I will get used to it . I paid a similar amount off of Ebay as the one you have in mind, but mine has 220 k on it, but a rake of service history, so the mileage does not bother me at all. The recent release of SBC pumps from Bosch for £500 or so gives the car a whole new lease of longevity, which may well increase the value of them. I had 11 years out of the old 210 and hope to keep the 211 for many years.
I notice that the vendor of the 270 makes no mention of any service history?? perhaps an oversight,? and also I notice a useful towbar which are quite expensive to fit to this model. Steve.
