S500L - nice spec

35+ MPG on the motorway ?

Lots to go wrong on these Derek , none of it cheap ....

Not interested in his waffle, but looks like a basis of a very nice W220. Ventelated, massage seats, rear blinds all round, TV, BOSE, distronic. A nice wooden steering wheel and it would be complete. :thumb:

I wonder if the rear screens are factory or not. they have wood surround but the wiring to them looks a bit after market to me....

I guess if you go into it with your eyes open , that its a hundred grand car with hundred grand car bills when things go wrong ( that they will at this age ) ...

Nothing is cheap to fix on these when things stop working.

I agree though , looks nice.

Is that 500L really that good value?

I paid a lot less than that for my one which had done 50k less miles but was a year older. It didn't have the same spec, mine didn't have distronic, screens or side blinds. But did have the rest of the bits plus a fridge.

It'll never do 35mpg on a run, best I ever got was 33mpg and that was really, really trying.

that S600L is the business.....

I'll only buy an S class if it has specific toys on it.

that has everything on it doesnt it?

If it was from a motor dealer carcraft they would do all the work themselvers no? I range the guy it has every years MOTs with mileage so miles are prob geniune and serviced inhouse. Still its whistle time with a s600 biturbo anything goes on it.

no history and a V12 biturbo is not the best combination, but a true fantastic car. More money than i want to spend on a car at the moment and i think i'd be happy with a S500L but i love it! Certainly a match for the 760Li i was considering a while back.

i'll add it to my watch list.

Exactly:)

Unless the history was traced/verified the thought of buying an S600 with no provenance would scare the bejesus out of me.

Derek

147k miles and 10 services including one just done ? Mmmm....... mine had it's 9th at 110k

35+ MPG on the motorway. Not a hope in hell. 30-31 at best. I know I've tried. 28 is more realistic.

DVD setup looks aftermarket. Decent install though. Don't like the cable routing .....

Having owned mine for 16 months I have heard many people tell me how unreliable they are and how everything will be terminally expensive to fix. Camshaft sensor is the only bit of grief I have had and that seems to be common on many differing Mercedes cars.

Yep, expensive motor with the possibility of a big bill. Realistically, any car can give a big bill at some point and for some it means that the repair isn't worth it.

Even at £5k and £2k on HUGE repairs at some point means a lot of luxury motor for less that the price of a new citycar.

It's how you look at the ownership thats important.

Not like yours ;)

Very useful for coffee and doughnuts at Brooklands.

Good luck with the S600L unless it actually had a heap of history at a main dealer.

They go like stink but I saw so many when I was looking that just had a heap of faults.

147k 10 stamps in the service book I'm thought the service interval is 10k on the S500 something doesn't add up I know it took me a year to find a good low miles S500L with full service history

I suppose as it got older the intervals got stretched a bit?

Still plenty of car for the money, although it won't have cost £102k when it was new as is stated.
