It appear I've got a bust SAM, since my indicators don't work, neither do hazards, and brakes are on all the time. However the indicators do flash when unlocking / locking.

My question though, is it possible to have it repaired, or have I got to buy a new one. If so how much we looking at.

Thanks James

Ps. It's a very early w203

I had my rear SAM replaced last year on my w203 coupe.

Cost approx (cant remember exactly) £220ish for SAM from main dealer, 0.5-1 hour labour. Star required though.

Luckily I got a friend with Star who did the labour for free in about 30 minutes.

Strange how £220 equates to 180Euro. The price of sending parts through the chunnel seems to make them incredibly valuable.

Seems to me that it would be worthwhile setting up a parts dealership next to that French wine and cheese store on the exit ramp of the chunnel. If you had a slightly bigger list of items or a group buy it would be cheaper to have a weekend in France + the European price than most of the UK parts prices.

£220 = 324 Euro.
I think this backs your case even more.

Does anyone know the part number for the Front Right SAM unit, so I can get some prices etc. Or will I need to ring the stealers?
James

The part number varies according to the age of it.

Hmm, I priced a replacement part from the stealers, and it is £250. So i decided to buy one that I found on ebay for £40 delivered. Advertised as never put on a car, but then you never know. Having fitted it the same problem is present. Ie indicators don't work and hazards only flash quickly, and occasionally! I haven't had the unit coded though, could that be the problem? I would have expected different behavoir from an uncoded unit opposed to a broken one?

If it solves your problem, can I buy the old one from you, I want to see whats inside and put the details up

Those front SAM units are developed in Australia by BOSCH. It is a whole lot of gating and power curcuits with CAN B, C thrown in.
