Are there any upgrades or updates that can bring the nav system up to date on the above car?
Firmware/software updates map disks etc.

If you keep your eyes open you could pick up a bargain from an MB dealer. I just received a UK/IRL 2009/10 DX with merian guide and TMC disc from MB Oxford for £30! Amazing value considering it's RRP is £260.
