I am moving to Greece in the new year and I am driving over.I need to buy a sat-nav (not to cover GreeK roads, cos nobody does one) to get me as far as Ancona in Italy.I don't need anything too flash,no blue tooth or anything like that. Can anybody reccomend a particular make that is easy to use and doesn,t cost the earth.
Thanks.

garmin seem to be good, i think they were the first company to start sat navs, but dont take my word on that,

Joby.

Another vote for Garmin here - I've got a Street Pilot C550, which admittedly has all the bells and whistles. I'm very impressed with it.

Cheers,

Gaz

Cheers guys,I had a Navman in my van but some t**d nicked it.
Going on from my previous post about our forthcoming move,we were looking to buy a Pajero to drive over but as our w202 is running so well and is in such good nick we are now considering taking it instead. The one good thing is that all the islands taxi's are E and C classes so servicing shouldn't be a problem.I want to tow a box trailer over with me and have looking at a 10ft x 5ft x 6ft.Is this ok to pull behind a c180? I am planning to take it dead easy speed-wise (I am in no hurry) or should I look at maybe a smaller trailer?

I've got a tom tom go 720. Has european street level mapping and works a treat in Germany, Belgium, Holland & France - which is as far as I've gone with it so far. Got bits you may not need, but the mapping is excellent.

Garmin, Navteq maps are better than tele atlas maps IMO have used both a lot in italy and the Garmin wins hands down.

I've had Garmin and Tom Tom and I agree that Garmin maps via navteq are far better than tom tom via teleatlas...IMHO...

Pity Comand use teleatlas........

Hi Darrell,

From your post it sounds like you are emigrating (talking about servicing etc). Have you checked out the vehicle importation regs for Greece, I hear they are a pain in the a**e. You can only take a foreign registered car into the country for a maximum of 6 months IIRC.

Cheers,

Gaz

Hi Gaz,
You are right. The import regs are a nightmare but luckily my in-laws are coming out for 6 months and they will take the car back to the UK.TBH there are a good few ex-pats driving cars that have been there for a least 10 years. Not entirely sure how they get away with it but our new bussiness involves British tourists so personally we don't want to take any risks. We have a Greek tax number so after summer 2008 we will buy a Greek plated vehicle.

What's the problem with Greek roads? My phone is loaded with the Nokia Maps application and I have Greek roads for free? I assume the same map data would be available for other devices.

Diesel Benz, all the sat navs I have seen advertise say they cover all of Europe but when I checked the small print Greece isn't on the list.

Can anybody help me with the towing question and any other advice for the journey.Eg car preparation etc etc

I think you only mentioned the size of the trailer, the weight should be important. You can see from your car manual the allowed weight.

Isn't the car tax very high in Greece? Don't they allow tax free car import if you own the car and intend to move there?

Max. braked trailer weight weight will be in the handbook.

I have just looked up the trailer weight in the manual. It says for a braked trailer - 1500.I take it that this is kilo's but is that the weight of the trailer unladen or the weight of the trailer and load.
