SatNav in a C220 - Advice sought

Apologies if this has been done to death (I have done a search etc) but still struggling to make a sensible decision........

My 2002 C220 CDI Elegance has a Audio 10 (I think that is correct) and having had SatNav in the past I fiund myself very lost without it. I am no car technician and the though of hacking the fascia to get a unit in leaves me very cold! :)

So...... I have been offered a MB Audio-30 APS OEM unit (Becker) but been a bit spoilt with DVD based system previously. The new pioneer AVIC X-1 looks good for it's multimedia capabilities and could drive some rear screens for "normal" dvd use. At around £2.5k for a full kit it's not cheap but seems to do the job although I expect the nav will need a software upgrade having read some reviews.

I can't seem to get any sensible quotes on an MB type option which I assume is the COMAND system. Can the latest version of this be fitted to my C Class and could it drive rear screen monitors too if required, I guess I would need a seperate player?

So if anyone knows of a North West based company who could help or any general advice I would much appreciate it thanks.

pioneer do a nice all in one screen\nav unit, check their website!

then searc haround the web and im sure you`ll find it at a reasonable price!

Hmmmmmmm

Thanks for the responses....

Not keen on attaching "bits" to windows/dash etc for pda style navigation although I do have a Sony P900 phone which would be relatively easy to use in car with a nav package. With all the motorway driving I do, the volume level could be a problem on those smaller units?

Kenwood is interesting being double din sized and would fill the Audio 10 / Tray space nicely I guess. Just need to see a COMAND system now to make a sensible choice!!

Trust me the volume of the TomTom Go standalone is no problem. Quite frankly, I am confused about how much noise that comes out of that little thing. Worth at least looking at if you get a chance.

You couldn't convince me if you tried that an in dash unit is worth the money anymore. If you have the spare cash though, fantastic.

Oh yes I do. Will pop downstairs and take a pic of it on the dash tonight. Very good sized unit with all the goodies. At the end of summer there will even be a POI module that will allow you to import some of the many speed camera databases! Cant wait.

Best bit is that if you charge the battery, there are no wires in the car at all.

Cheers chap - look forward to seeing the pics! :)
