So the first major set back/hidden issue has occurred :(

Picked the car up after its MOT and we couldnt get it started. It was 10mins before the garage was due to close for the day so after trying the basics and attaching a battery jumper pack etc, we decided to leave it there overnight and let them take a look at it the next day.

Next morning, I get a call to say that it was just down to a fuse and the car was good to go. Picked it up and drove it around for around an hour, getting to know the new car and loving how it drove/filmed a couple of sequences for the epsiode 4 video. Parked up at a petrol station, filled up with diesel and the car wouldnt start once again.

Turns out it keeps fusing the fuse for the starter motor. So strangely enough I had found some in the centre armrest when I bought the car - first red flag had appeared. Replacing the fuse made no difference, it popped it instantly. Turns out, when the engine is warm it keeps fusing the starter motor fuse again and again, however it doesnt when the engine is cold.

So as per the end of Episode 4, we had to stay at the petrol station for around 1 hour before it let me start the car again. Attaching the car up to my iCarSoft Max, no fault codes were displayed at all... Not 100% trusting this could be correct, I then attached up my dodgy Chineseium Xentry/Star and again, no fault codes...!

Turns out this is a faily common issue on W203s with high mileage, like mine. When the engine is cold, it starts fine, when its warm it doesnt. I tried upping the fuse rating from 10, then 15 and then 20. - I dont want to try higher just incase it causes a fire.

I have bought a new starter motor and will be fitting it next weekend. Ho hum... just hope this isnt the start of a long list of issues :(

Been having issues with the Gearbox once its upto temp :( I believe its the: 722.699
Gear changes become clunky and occasionally it gets stuck in 2nd. As soon as its cooled down again it runs fine. I have scanned it with both iCarSoft and Xentry which didnt flag a single code.

Looking at the bottom conductor plate, it looks extremely oily, could it just be a case that it needs a full clean down/fluid change? Anyone have any other ideas what it could be?

Cheers!

EDIT: Ive created a separate thread: Clunky Changes/Stuck In Gear When Warm | Engine

So the car, now fully legal with a working starter is stuck in 1st/2nd gear. I have it booked in next week for a fluid change however they arent gearbox spealists and suggested I call up one locally.

Spoke to the guy who said if its stuck in 2nd, then its lost compression already/gearbox oil is burnt and its game over for it - sell the car. £2-2500 for a rebuild.

He, obviously the expert and im not, but is it still even worth getting a flush? or is it more money down the drain. - Ive made a **** up, took a punt on a project and now have a 1.7 tonne paperweight :(

I could look at getting a replacement `gearbox, however I believe these still need to be coded to the car - unless I get an indentical spec one + he said make sure I get the convertor also.

Thoughts?

Bought a set of staggered 18" AMG Style III (I think) alloys for dirt cheap. They are in a bad shape and one isn't holding air FFS.

Test fitted one of the rears:

These are often overlooked as they could normally only be found on the 2nd Gen A-Class as well as the SLK but I love the look of them.
