I don't think there is room for a normal servo?

You could retro fit Citroen brakes, no need for a servo and wow are they powerful.

Mercedes just changed my SBC unit that had reached the end of its service life at no charge. I was told that provided the car is less than 10 years old it is a warranty item. Perhaps Mercedes UK can help?

Do you get your car serviced with them?

I would imagine this is a dealer that has not 'heard' the latest on this or are taking a different stance.

At least it is consistently inconsistent.

The car was registered in November 2002 and it definately did not have SBC, it's the first thing I check when test driving a W211.

We got the frist 211 to convert in July 2002 , it was one of the frist to arrive in Ireland , a black elegance with grey leather interior . This car did have SBC , it was sent over to Bosch in Germany to have the traction control ECU , that also incorprated SBC functions , reprogramed to work correctly with the lengthened wheelbase .
I was always led to believe that all peface lift 211,s had SBC .

JohnEBoy,

No I don't get the car serviced with them.

I use an independent called Wrighttech in Sidcup and he sorted it all out for me. Excellent service.

I guess you could be right about the specific dealer not knowing or taking a different stance and one might think this to be unacceptable, hence I suggested contacting Merc UK for their thoughts!

That's handy then! I don't think I've mentioned my SBC unit to Andy previously - which is why I was going to mention it when my car is in for a service shortly as it is definitely louder. I have no way of checking whether it is near the end of it's useful life or not but I imagine it is possible with Star.

I wonder if Andy knows his local MB dealer well enough for them to take his word or whether he just fires the car at them...

The question is can I get my indie to speak to MB UK now and get it changed before the car gets any older and MB withdraw all goodwill on SBC replacement? So far it has been ok and is one of the last pre-facelifts but it is on 120k miles so it can't last forever.
I want to keep this one indefinitely but can't afford £1700+
