Scam or no scam?

Ask him if he's got a brother called Bobby , as you once went to school with Bobby Brown who had a brother called Douglas ....

Scam. 100%.
If you proceed you'll get the usual reply referring to shipping companies, Western Union transfers etc etc.

The idea being that they send you a cheque including shipping and ask you to transfer money via Western Union or similar to a fictitious shipping company. Then they bounce the original cheque.

Bin it.

Selling cars is easy: Someone hands you money, you count it, check it and give him the keys and docs and a receipt - sold as seen and inspected, copies for both of you.

Defo scam.
Had something similar when I was selling my CLK.

This is a recent email i got:

Good Day Jay,
Your reputation seems to indicate the right sort of organization to deal with.
I was looking for a specific S-500 but your S-420 fits the bill right down to the colour and interior trim, apart from the motor. As a Merc specialist what in your experience would be the main differences to be expected between the two models. From your comprehensive description and although it does not specifically say it I assume it is the face lift model, so unless you have an S-500 or S-500 L of the same vintage I will retain interest in the model you have.
All factors being equal I will be in the UK in about 2 weeks time but will call you next week to see if the vehicvle is still available.I will make arrangements prior to my leaving South Africa with my shipping agents so if all is satisfactory I can settle your account and then let them containerize etc.
Kind Rgds,
Dr Bernard J Crimes

Scam or No?

Funny that. Dont know if it's just a coincidence, but there is a Dr. Bernard Abach in the link I posted earlier on. Changed his name maybe?

Time to play him at his own game.........tell him you need a deposit to hold the car for him to view....no deposit -- no car.!!

May be a scam, may be not.

I sold an X-type Jag 4mnths ago to a guy in Malta.
All by e-mail.
He and a friend caught a plane the night before and stayed in a travelodge for the night. Met them in the morning at the travelodge. I insisted he bring cash with him and then took him directly to the bank to deposit money into my account. I never handled the money at all.

Done deal, chap e-mailed me when he got back two days later.:bannana:

Don't dismiss everything, it may be genuine. Just be careful with giving personal details.

.......although having read the rest of the posts i would give this one a wide berth.
