SCN Datacard Update

Yep, they are a legit MB Specialist. They said they do a lot of retrofits and are able to do them within the hour usually.

A legit approach does not work if the datacard change was not accepted. Andy should be able to tell more, perhaps you should approach him with a PM.

So, after a month MB refuse to even respond to the Garage's emails about the SCN. If anyone knows someone who can at least get these options activated without SCN being updated, please let me know.

I tried to add 219 (Distronic) to a SL (230) yesterday, MB won't allow that.
Ah ok thanks Richard for confirming. Do you happen to know what they will allow now? For they even rejected the electric boot closer

I was reading on here, where someone done this on their 2003 W220. He managed to get it to work via offline programming

"The secret to the my success was to find the Variant code in the CGW ecu for "CAN-C: Abstandsassistent" [=CAN-C: Distance Assistant] which was coded "nicht vorhanden" [=not available] and once this was changed to "vorhanden" [=available], along with the other more obvious changes, the system worked perfectly."

Update

Managed to get this working with offline coding. Enabled in CGW, ME 2.8 & IC (Using the guide mentioned in my previous post). I checked in LCP but can't see anything to enable it the module from knowing the button and potentiometer is there. The potentiometer seems to work, just the button that turns off the warning alarm does nothing to turn it off. I can manually do it via STAR but afterwards it does nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you mean the N72s9 switch? Can you read the switch status with DAS? Perhaps initial startup? My DAS in simulation mode also offers automatic coding of options when entering the LCP.

I've seen many Distronic retrofit reports for a W211 (using off-line version coding). Did not search but you should find assistance or people to ask help from.

Thanks. Yes I’ve read around but most of those w211 retrofits were done on facelifts which were easier apparently to do. Will look around but thanks though 👌🏽

The way SCN coding works, is that the car is connected online to the MB central computer via STAR, and once the Datacard has been updated, STAR will then download to the front and rear SAM the firmware for the options as listed in the Datacard, which in effect 'enables' the retrofitted option on the SAM (and on the car). I.e., updating the Datacard isn't just for show, it is actually the official way to activate retrofitted options on the car - STAR will check the MB database to see which options the car should have, based on it's VIN, and will update the SAM accordingly.

Older cars had more systems that didn't need enabling in this way, but as the cars get newer, retrofitting options without SCN coding becomes progressively more rare, and with new cars, almost everything that is connected to the car's electrical system will require SCN coding, including 'petty' stuff such as kerb lights - the SAM will simply not instruct the door controller module to power the relevant connector if it doesn't know that kerb lights have been retrofitted.

Offline coding is akin to 'hacking' in that you make changes to the software on the ECUs directly, i.e. without going the long route of notifying the central computer and then waiting for the SAM to download the correct software via STAR and enable the retrofitted feature. It works, but if the dealer gets the car and tries to update the software for whatever reason, the 'hack' will get overwritten and the retrofitted option will stopped working again.

One more point - have these mods been declared to the insurer?

And one last point - how will you deal with selling the car, when the time comes? Is it a keeper that you intend to run to ground? Or will you explain to the buyer what mods have been done? Or remove them?
