Screwing parrot kit into top of dash. How secure will it be?

I am sick of the damn thing falling of. I have applied all sorts of super strengh glue to make it stick.

After my final attempt there is a very unsightly smudge of glue where it used to sit.

I bought the car with the kit. And the previous owner obviously loved epoxy!

I know i need to screw it in with torx screws.

My question is. How secure will the kit be once i have screwed into the top foam part of the dash. Moreover, are there any special type of screws i should go for?

I'm thinking long ones

You've got to be kidding.?

Nope. I'm pretty serious!

The thing keeps falling off, and i would sell the car with the kit anyhow.

Like i say. There is a unsightly smudge of epoxy on the driver side. And the only way to cover it would be to mount on the foam dash.

How long are the screws?

I'm sure you can get a Brodit kit that fit without damaging the dash?

edit - BROD-060- 215130 approx £17

Dash is already damaged. There is a nice smudge of epoxy on it from previous owner.

If anyone has any other alternative ideas for a top dash mount. Please advise!

As you already have a mark I suggest roughing the surface with a coarse sandpaper and applying a two part epoxy, like Araldite.

I think screws would hold it but it's likely to wobble as the sub foam structure wont hold fast for long.

Preparation is the key (pun intended!)

You need an adhesive suitable for vinyl, epoxy isn't it. A local adhesives supplier would be able to sell you something more suitable.

Shudders at the thought

Its epoxy residue that the previous owner left behind on the dash.

I am going to have a go at removing it with acetate (nail polish remover) 2mrow.

I just bought a mounting kit for the Parrot. So i am going to mount it via the air vents if at all possible.

DONT DO IT!!

Cant the existing glue be removed neatly by a trim (chips away) specialist etc? and then just use a windscreen mount?

How about some Velcro from B&Q? for around £10 you can get a roll, It is so strong, easily hold the Parrot.

sticky back velcro will hold almost anything, Ive used it for years on car installs, go to your local car stereo shop (not Halfords) who will have rolls of it!

Yeah just screw the velcro onto the dash.. :D

i use araldite all purpose adhesive... you need to hold it for a while until it begins to set then it will go rock hard... best bit is upon removal it wont mark the dash...

Ive used it to hold my old harmon Kardon ipod kit and the display on that is relatively heavy..

Hi,

this is what i used. But after holding it on for 2 hours the thing fell off.

I am going to use the velcro idea. Seems like a better idea.

Perhaps you didn't mix in enough hardener?

velcro wont work unless it has a really strong self adhesive pad with it.

I have some double sided 3M VHB tape. SHould do the trick hopefully!
