Second Baby On The Way

Second A class arrived from Zeebrugge today and will reach my local dealer tommorrow. A180cdi Elegance, automatic, with 6cd and i-pod, plus parktronic, comfort seat package, manual adjustment of steering wheel rake and reach, telephone pre-wiring and electric folding mirrors. The colour is Atoll Blue metallic with black cloth interior. Feels like Christmas. Something about buying new even if it may not be the most economic way to motor.

Which one is yours, and do they both have the same spec.

Will you use one as an all round car, when you only need one, and keep the mileage down on the other

To my endless surprise we do about about 18,000 miles per annum of almost entirely private motoring. I really like driving and trips and so does Susan. Our two week holiday was 3,000 miles in France and Spain. So two cars makes more sense than at first appears. The plan is that Susan will do about 7,500 per year in hers (sometimes with me, other times not). And we will do about 10,000 in mine mainly together.

The specs are similar except that mine is Elegance and hers is Avantgarde. Hers is Polar silver mine is Atoll Blue. Neither have sports suspension as the ride is plenty hard enough standard. Partly, to get the great deals at the moment you have to choose a car that is with a dealer or in transit to one. There was no Avantgarde with all the bits I wanted so I went for Elegance. Very similar.

But the Avantgarde has Artico man made leather and Maastricht cloth seats which look super. Elegance is just cloth. But OK.

Avantgarde has projection beam Halogen headlamps which are amazingly good. So good we haven't missed bi-Xenon. Elegance gets straightforward halogens. We shall see how good they are.

Elegance has smaller wheels and therefore a more cushioning ride from deeper tyres, which I shall like. I adored the soft, forgiving, bump absorbing ride of the air cushioned S class. Peerless it was.

Thanks Hawk, you must have spent ages working out all of the options and variations. I can understand your choice
