Seems that my gearbox needs a new bearing...

I used to think the release bearing was buggered meself cuz sometimes when i was changing gears... i'd get some resistance then a violent metally clunk sound, like the gears got forced into each other or something.

But no the mechanic didnt say that, his comment on the diagnosis card was "suspect Gbox worn bearing inside".

The release bearing is related to the clutch right?

I know there are a few people on this forum who have the ability of checking how much parts are brand new.... if any of them could help quote me (roughly) a new clutch for the 230K i'd be grateful.
Look on www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk webite you should find all the info there. You can also phone them if you can't find the part you want, found them very helpful.

try this http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=717.460&CT=M&cat=19K&SID=25&SGR=015&SGN=01

There does appear to be several versions and the dreaded phrase-"dual mass flywheel" appears. I say this because an increasing number of cars with dual mass flywheels are exhibiting transmission problems. These seem to occur in "high torque " drivetrains such as in turbodieseled engined cars with manual transmissions. I am not saying this is the problem in your car or Mercedes in general but others may know better??
Best to put your VIN number into the opening box to get the correct clutch parts. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp You can then go to the online parts site mentioned above and get some idea of prices.
