Probably almost never been cold started. constant temp, lots of motorway cruising. Probably safer and in better nick than a car that's done only 1000 miles a year.

Bit 'poverty-spec' though? No heated seats, distronic, electric seats, climate is missing loads of 'buttons' etc etc - thats still some serious mileage - thought mine (180k) was high - 600K is massive!

I was in a 212 350cdi sport estate airport taxi with 380k on it recently. Ran like a dream.

Earlier this year I rode in a W211 220CDI taxi in Holland that had covered almost 1.2 million km - in other words around 20% more than this one - and it felt fine. Spoke with the owner / driver and he said he'd had nothing but regular maintenance work done on it.

We have a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi on a 55 plate that came in as a PX against another newer Octavia that has 611,000 on the clock and still on its original engine.
We phoned up Skoda UK and asked if they would be interested in having a look at it, as they like to take high mileage cars in and pull them apart sometimes, but were told "great to hear about your car, but we are keeping tabs on a couple of Octavia's that have over a million miles on them that are still working hard"
Interestingly on this Merc E Class....I wonder whether they would have got the same mileage out of it on the newer 2.2 engine with the timing chain on the back of it.....the older 2.2 seems to be absolutely bullet proof.
