Circa thirty days so you should be fine.

Does anyone know the current grace period for a service? If i am able to delay it by 25 days, as i have an MOT due soon and Ideally i would like to do them together.
You can do an MOT up to a month early and keep the original date

True - but I think Mobilo also cover some minor repairs for free, which on balance could counteract some of that. And if your car is recovered you get a replacement vehicle, they also cover stuff like taxis and accommodation if you’re out travelling etc IIRC - it’s not just a basic roadside assistance/breakdown cover :)

Eg - I remember a post on here whereby Mobilo covered the cost of a new crank sensor and fitting, and I think they cover mishaps like vehicle lockouts too (like on a recent thread on here)

I just see it as a useful benefit that you don’t have to pay for if you have main dealer servicing :thumb:

That was myself re the cps.

Thanks for all your replies. It really good to see a forum so informational and responsive

The 30-day rule is only relevant if the car is still under manufacturers warranty. Otherwise, you can have it serviced whenever you like, nothing will be affected (apart from Mobilo which is only valid for 12 months from the date of last service, so the cover will stop after 12 months and until the next service is done). I am not suggesting that you should extend the service intervals beyond what the manufacturer's recommendations, just to clarify that there are no practical consequences to doing so if the car is no longer under manufacture's warranty (or other contractual obligation e.g. lease hire etc).

With regards MOT, if you get it done within one month before it expires, the original expiry day/month will be preserved, but you can still bring it forward by more than a month, all that will happen is that the date you had it done will then become the new renewal date. So if you want to align the service and the MOT going forward, you can stretch the service for as long as reasonable and/or bring the MOT forward as required, until the two shall meet.

On one hand, aligning the two is indeed very convenient, but then keep in mind that you will have to give-up on the flexibility of slightly delaying the service in future if need be, e.g. due to work or family commitments, being unwell, etc, because obviously the MOT can not be delayed beyond its expiry date.

If you check the offerings from the likes of AA, RAC, and Green Flag they are not dissimilar in terms of practical help and assistance if you have the appropriate level of cover. And where it is personal cover then you are covered when travelling in other privately owned cars.

If your car is under a MB warranty of some sort then I think Mobilo will almost always be better - because it ties the recovery to the dealer network. And if you travel outside of the UK then its value is even higher.

Other recovery services are potentially more flexible if you have a MB that is out of warranty cover - and if you have other cars.

Also household cover for multiple vehicles and/or people is typically much better value than individual personal or vehicle cover.

We budget £50/year per person or vehicle for our cars for UK wide recovery - and would expect to top that up for another £20 for European cover if going outside the UK.

Well , it can , it is just that you can't drive the car other than to a pre arranged test while it has no valid certificate . However , if the reason was that you are away on holiday when it falls due and the car is going to be parked up off road , it is no problem to just leave it until you return . Equally if you have another car and it is more convenient to wait a week or two until the service falls due .

Under normal circumstances it's 30 days, but I believe it's 3 months before it causes an issue with warranty, etc. However Mercedes/Smart told me that it was extended by a further 3 months, but I'm not sure of start/end dates.

It only affected my Smart which was due to be serviced as lockdown was imposed - the first date they could service it was last week at which point they told me that there were no implications of being serviced 4 months late. I suspect similar for Mercedes.

Hi Mark
I have highlighted your post purely because I do not know the correct answer.

I value that Mobilo cover and I am not saying it is good, or it is bad, but if we want that cover, then my experience is that when we dial that 00800 number and no, that is not a typo and yes, that is only the first five numbers, but when we dial it, the operator then asks for our vehicle registration number and they then check their database to see if we are covered. I have NO idea what the precise requirements are but that person we speak to is judge and jury, so it is no good saying, 'I think I am covered' That is the wrong time and the wrong place. CHECK before taking that plunge.

We have all read bad experiences of having our vehicles serviced by a main dealer and those same comments will apply for the specialist\independents that might service our vehicle.

Do we know of any garage\workshop that is Mercedes-Benz approved and are not a main dealer? (Apart from body repair locations).
