Service costs for a 2003 R230 SL500?

Differential oil is a cheap job when the car is in the air , using Fuchs oil would be about £26 for the 2L required .
Pollen filter and air filter are things you can do yourself to save a few quid .

An MB indy will know exactly what need doing, no
disrepect.

Be sure your insurance. co know where its parked.

Now i was expecting a fairly heart stopping quote, But i was not expecting £96 per month! That is almost £1200 per service! Is this normal??? My car is not new, it is a 2003 model...

What do you guys and gals normally do for your precious cars?

I bought my R231 last year and was quoted £47 per month for the Service Plan.

I'm on my last service this year on a three year plans at £45/ month

Ok Thanks everyone, I am going to the MB dealership on Monday, I have a broken drivers side door switch which they are going to replace, and the price i thought was reasonable - In fact the actual twin arm rest switch was £32 cheaper than i could find secondhand! I shall ask them for a detailed service plan quote for the major service - I have spoken to two independent garages and they reckon that the cost of a major service as outlined by 'flowrider' ( great moniker by the way ) would be around £700....

I intend to look after this car and get many years out of it, The car just hit 80k yesterday which i know isn't a massive mileage for the size of the engine.

I will let you know how i get on....

The list I gave is what I have done due to the age and mileage of the car and based on not having any info to say any of the work has already been done. Check your service info in case you are duplicating work unnecessarily.

I hear what you are saying, and i have absolutely no definitive proof that any of the aforementioned has been done ( I could have made the same invoices on my PC!) Peace of mind and all that... And yes i know sharks are swimming around me and can smell a kill.... I like to start with a level playing field ... Your list was excellent thank you, and i am assuming none of the above ( apart from the rudimentary services like engine oil and filters ) have been done..... So your list is the basis of my 'quotes' ... I will judge from that!

And i do appreciate the starting list, really

OK I got a quote for doing a deep and full service on my SL from MB..... It was £2550!!

My independent MB service agent ( Who i just discovered today was the main technician at my MB dealership until 5 years ago ) quoted me around £750 for the same work..... I am currently trawling through all of the invoices / receipts i had with my car.....

All i can say is cheers guys for all of your wise words, and i will be taking your leads.

OK, I had a lot more history with the car than i first thought, and the great news is that it really does not need anything doing for at least another 2 years!

I am going to get my independent MB specialist to give the car a really good check over when the MOT is getting nearer... October, so that she is nice and sorted ready for putting away from the nasty salty roads !

Cheers All

Thanks for reporting the happy ending!

Be aware that a service plan will only cover those items which be due at a particular point in time, it will not cover items which may or may not have been done in the past.

I’m sure the main dealer can quote for each item may have been missed and charge you for those separately, although the risk is that they will be done again prematurely under the service plan in future services.

For example spark plugs will probably be four yearly. If you do them now, and they’re due next year then then they’ll be done again next year even though they’ll not actually be due for another three years.

If you’re thinking a service plan would be right for you, then find out what would be due in the next couple of years and take a view on what to do now or not.

will MB even quote for a service plan on a 19 year old car?

I’m sure MB will do it for any age car , after all they aren’t doing repairs just service .
