I have heard a rumour that if you give a Stealer your chassis number they can give you a print out of your service history.

Having brought an ex-company car without the service book this would be quite useful.

I do have a company spreadsheet listing all the spare parts used over the years (with dates and mileages) such as "new wiper assembly and motor", "wheel bearing replacement" etc but the actual services are just listed as "Mercedes service". I would like to know it this was done at a stealership and what was carried out.

Is the name of the supplying garage on the bottom of the number plate or on the back of the tax disk holder? That may be a good place to start.

Also, you can usually get data from the leasing company - their name may be on the plate instead.

Good luck

Philip

A couple of years ago I bought a W124 E280 and it had a partial history. I then went into the dealer that had supplied and serviced the car and they kindly printed out all of the service history ....It ran to about ten pages of computer print out.

Thank you Woking Motors!

The trick I think is that you find out which dealer did the servicing and if possible call in and make the request rather than trying to do it all over the phone.

Thanks chaps but from what I understand you do not need to know who carried out the servicing. The service history must be kept on a central computer somewhere.

I was told that any dealer can print out the service history from just the chassis number.

Wezzel, Ive found that that is not the case with MB`s, because they cant even tell you what your last service was unless you had it done previously by that particular francaise.

however VW do have a central computer and can do this for you! sorry doesnt help oin your case!

MB don't keep a central database of service records. When I bought mine, the dealer I phoned up said you might be lucky if all the servicing has been done in the same area, the local dealers might share their records.

If a dealer has lost the franchise in the restructuring to
"MercedesBenz of xxxxx" then there will be no service history available as the original francisee owns all the information.

MB do keep a central database of warranty work performed to the vehicle, because they are paying for it.

I concur with the warranty database. My local dealer printed out all the details of mine from the chassis number. This included the full manufacturers spec of the car when new and every piece of warranty work ever done; which wasn't a lot so that says something about the build quality of SL500's built in 1997.

Thank's for clearing things up. At least I won't make a total nob of myself in the Stealers now :)
