Had a quick search but unable to find what i'm after so sorry if this is repost which i'm sure it will be..

My dad has asked me to sort out his CLK 320 (its a 2001, 320 with amg suspension and wheels) for a service. What i'm wondering is does this car have a chain rather than cambelt as i can't find any info on what mile it should be changed, even in the service book

I gather it has a chain and is not included in any service schedules.

I'm no technical expert, but from what I've read MB chains are good for at least 100k if they are looked after, good lubrication with frequent refreshment being the main factor. If problems arise, they usually seem to reside in the tensioner, rather than the chain itself. A good mechanic will immediately detect any noise indicating trouble. I have cars at 145k and 175k on their original chains, both M103 inline sixes. I doubt that you have anything to worry about if the car has been well looked after and there are no funny noises.

Refreshment?
