Stood for nearly ten minutes waiting to pay at my local Shell station the other day - a bloke was trying (unsuccessfully) to get the Shell app to work on his phone so that he could register his visit. Not even the staff member serving him could get it to work properly. I'm sure it's usually fine, but I'm glad I opted for a card/fob, which is much quicker.

Nope. I’m referring to the ‘Scan Shell Go+ card’ button in the app. Tap that and a barcode with your unique account number magically appears on your phone screen.

What are you referring to when you say one can’t scan from the phone app?

My phone app gets scanned, I no longer use the card or fob.

Ditto on the BP card (if I actually go in). I only usually go to fill up (I cannot be ar$$ed to muck about for the pennies & freebies they give away) and use the app to pay so don't even need to go in (unless I'm short of wine).

Just checked what BP do and it seems a better system than what Shell offer.

We’ve made earning points nice and easy. Earn points when you:

• Fuel up, and pay either in-store, or via the BPme app
• Make in-store purchases, such as Wild Bean Cafe drinks or that chocolate bar you want to treat yourself to
• Using the car wash or jetwash

You will earn 1 point for each £1 spent in-store, 1 points for every litre of regular fuel, or 2 points for every litre of Ultimate fuel.

and wait for it.......I've accumulated a whole £2.49 in the +-6 months I've had their card. But to be fair, I often don't bother to get them to scan.........

thanks - i shall challenge my local Shell station who have told me they only register a visit from a card or fob and not from the app.
My local shell told me it was a generic image - not specific to my account

Yeah absolutely. Get you in the door and buying the odd drink or loaf of bread you otherwise wouldn’t.

I’ll be sticking to fuel haha

One additional observation, perhaps not too relevant for many - you can't use 3% discount and a, say £2 off at the same time - the voucher gets priority, so 2 quid will come off, but not 3%.

I used Shell mainly to top up my BA avios points. Now I will use the most convenient station out with supermarkets.

And if you pull the screen down a bit, the barcode magnifies (digits disappear) - makes it easier for some girls* to aim the scanner.

* Disclaimer: The term "girls" used in above statement, includes but not limited to, any species, whether human, extra-terrestrial or pixies, entrusted by Shell to operate a till.

so apparently per this email, I'll get gbp 3 off for 300 litres of fuel... that is less than one percent off...

other benefits like 10 PC off of oils is useful at least...

Apparently... that’s what a pair of attendants told me on one visit, although I haven’t tried it yet

I don't mind the ''new'' system to be fair. Anything off in my book is welcome & as the closest garage to me is Shell i use it all the time. Still have my first ever V Power club members card they used to do to make you feel a bit more special !!!

The 3% off I get for getting gas & electricity from Shell Energy (formerly First:Utility), so it's kind of "built-in" ... no separate scan for this ... and only up to 60 litres per month.
Still, better than nothing
