Shifting problem

Dear all,

My 1998 E200 has a 5 speed trans. It is getting difficult to shift from D to 4 and to D again when the car is running on highway. Sometime, I do need to shift to 4 from D in order to get more power but is very dangerous if I cannot shift back to D unless I stop the car.
Does it mean that I need my trans rebuilt? My Trans oil had been changed just 5 months ago.

isn't that what kickdown is for?

sounds like you need to get the trans checked over by your local mechanic

A faulty MAS could also cause the symptoms you describe.

The change from D to 4 is only the selector lever. This only activates the electric switch mechanism. You need to strip the selector and grease the slide and check the bearing.

Thanks Dieselman, I had open up the trans box and lube it all over and back it back to the car. I still have no chance to take it out for a ride yet. But the shifting seems easier than before.
