Mercedes 70's showroom

I remember someone in the forces telling me that there is a Merc dealership trapped in the "Green Zone" of Cyprus. This area is a neutral zone that seperates the Turkish and Greek Cypriots and is patrolled by UN forces. There are various shops and houses abandoned during the invasion by Turkish troups in 1974(?) The Merc dealer has a showroom of cars that haven't been touched for over 30 years!

That's incredible, be even better if they were decent cars ;)

How has this gone un-noticed for so long though? Surely people must have passed it everyday and seen the cars in there, unless it was the most well hidden dealership ever.

No one, other than UN forces, are allowed in this area which stretches the length of the island and varies in width from a few feet upto a mile or so.
Forces have to respect the area and aren't allowed to touch anything. I've heard there is still washing on clothes lines and food from unfinished meals left on tables as the populous fled.

it is an underground car park, but all the cars were water damaged years ago, I doubt if they are worth more than scrap value now if they haven't already been removed.

Shame:( I was told about this years ago by some American airmen I worked with but at the time didn't take in alot of what was said.
