Side glass marring

My friend popped round today and he showed me his side window which had alot of marring (not actual scratches??) when the worn rubber drip strip had been rubbing as the window goes up and down, possibly caused by grit between the rubber and glass, all the marks are vertical.

What would you recommend to remove or polish them out?

There is a kit available, by repol but its hard painful job and you can do more damage if your not carefull. I will try and find you a link.
