Does anyone here have Sky BB? We're looking at getting the Sky offer of TV, Phone and Internet for £26 a month, but I'm a little sus about the Broadband. I honestly just see it as one of the cheaper over subscribed services.

Two of the lads at work have gone for the Sky BB but have waited weeks to be switched over or even get the service switched on.

How does the phone line rental work too? Does it still get payed to BT or payed to Sky?

Can I also record from Sky with a HDD/DVD recorder without having to have Sky+?

After dreadful service with Tiscali I took the bullet and searched for another provider, I wanted to get the best deal for the fastest speed, I know I could pay x amount and go to the ones with high rating customer service, but thought, lets give Sky a go, its £10, unlimited (no such thing) and upto 16x.

Well, phoned them, got the whole caboodle and waited.

Two days later, letter arrives with my activation date (as I had given them the MAC code already), to be activated in 10 days time (this is a standard BT thing).

Next day the free wireless router arrived (Netgear) and a letter with my phone switch date.

7 days after my call my broadband decativates and sky phone to say you can hook it up, I did, and straight away it worked, checked my net speed with www.speedtest.net and have been getting between 8 - 10 mb download and 700kb - 1.2mb upload (great for Xbox Live).

Phone line switch - no hassle. paying £5 per month to Sky for unlimited 01 and 02 calls, and free 10 international destinations (the USA being one - which was great as I needed to phone Disney re our very soon holiday), yuo still pay BT the monthly line rental (by direct debit) and job done.

You can login to your account via the Sky controller on the services button (free) and check your bill.

I found a neat hack for the Sky router so you can use your own equipment.

So, I was happy with Sky, or am I just the lucky one!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, and yes in answer to the last question. Mind you Sky+ is easier to transfer (dependant on whether Pace or Amstrad) to a recorder for future use, whereas with normal Sky you need to have the box running on the channel you want to record, just like the old days!!

I am also considering the Sky package.
You may want to research through here:
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=sky
however it is always worth taking with a pinch of salt - as those who post are often those with something to complain about. You don't often get good reports like Mr Warren above ;)

From what I've summarised: the service is great :bannana:, but support sucks

i do have sky BB no problems so far. i just took the free package as i already had sky world . So all i do is just pay for the skytv and pay absolutely nothng for the BB. works for me as i was already paying for sky anyway and i was fed up with tiscali and their extra slow connections.

Yea tiscali did suck i had it a while back about 2 years back, back then i was running 512kbs when 1mb was the best around price wise they said sorry your line only supports 512kbs !!!! Fair enough i phoned up other BB companys they all said no incompatibilities with your line and would support 1mb so wtf was wrong with tiscali !!! Im on telewest at the moment which was fantastic but since Virgin have taken over it its becoming more and more rubbish day by day and they have increased there prices !! So i myself am looking to switch to SKY BB

What is it? I have Sky BB and would like touse my own router.

Thanks

If you go to www.skyuser.co.uk - go to the forums and search for Mossywell, great little program that gives you the box user code and password that can be used on your own router, thus not needing to use skys lockdown netgear version.

On another note, my connection has settled down and I am having great times with it - no restrictions as yet and speed of 11mb online BT said could do only 5-6mb, tested against all the speedtesters and it rocks. For once - well done Sky!!
