I received a pm the other day, from a member who was questioning my signature.

I have never claimed that my SL is the last 107 built, but is a very late one.

It was delivered to the dealer on 28.7.1989, and not registered until 21.11.1989.

I have tried in the past to try and find the final 107 chassis number, but have had no luck in finding it.

Anyone any idea, or where to look or how to go about finding the info.

How is he disputing its one of the last?

The date delivered may not be any relation to when it was made.

Depending on how the build mix was towards the end of production yours could have been built but only delivered to the dealer several months later.

The VINS should have some sort of series though if thats any indicator.

What about writing to MB in Germany and ask them or get them to point you in the right direction.

What does the ashtray say....?

I understand that the last 107 was produced on 4.8.89

And there was over 237,000. 107sl built.

Just need the final chassis number.

Well the ashtray should give you the month and year.

Of when the ashtray was made.

I really want to be definitive with the chassis numbers.

I have asked on other websites, and looked through most things I could google, I now think the only way will be to contact MB in Germany.

Clearly MB Germany will give you the definitive answer, however Honest John reckons that the ashtray date is pretty accurate, apparantly they are generally made "just in time".
