SL R129

As already said, you can see a fair bit of the roof mechanism from inside the car.
Regarding the central locking can you open the boot ? does the key open the passenger door ?..
Has it got the hard top and wind deflector, these should be included..

On another subject, it is never a good idea to jump start these cars, tends to blow modules that are hard and costly to find.

Hi thanks for the reply chaps..

The CL doesn't do any of the above sadly, turning the key unlocks rhe drivers side door but not rhe passenger side, fuel filler cap is open. It seems to me the whole system is caput! If so assuming I should start by investigating through vacuum pump, are the serviceable , where is it located ?

There's a possibility that using the key (rather than the fob) only operates that one lock - I would check the handbook before going too much further!

Odd, I have no key hole on the drivers door, the keyhole on the passenger door opens that only, the one on the boot only opens that. Neither operate or starts the vacuum system.
The manifold for the system is under the fuel filler tube and if the tube leaks, can cause problems. As for the pumps location, iirc it is under the manifold for the system.

I got the car bought chaps! Well, made a deal the seller has headed off to the Le Man 24hr so will be picking up mid next week ish

Went down last Sunday and gave it a long test drive and it was fantastic, pulled like a train and was surprising planted. Quite happy with it. When I get it il throw some pics up. In re the central locking I think the pump is fine because you can lock all the doors and release the boot from the inside the car, it's that the key doesn't open it. So it may be a transponder issue of sorts.

Anyway Q for now is around servicing, always a habit of mine to get a full service when first in my ownership. So for the full whack, full fluid change, all filters and 12x spark plugs been quoted about 750 for non genuine and about 1k for Merc parts. Sound about right? Am I going overkill? Can't recall what was done at the last service will check when I get it but am I going over the top?

Congrats mate. You will enjoy it and all the attention you'll get.

Sorry one more Q, is it possible o change the rear plastic on the soft top, its gone cloudy and rear visibility isn't good.. if not is there a good way to clean it, thinking of wet n dry as to how we clean the light clusters from all the dirt they pick up.. similar approach or no ?

Congratulations on the purchase of the 129..

re the servicing, I can’t see how genuine MB parts cost £250 more. Usually find that the prices from MB is about the same.
as for the rear plastic window, think they can be polished though maybe not wet and dry.. there are companies about that will replace them, bit of Google searching should reveal all.. enjoy the summer and nice evening drives..

The windows in the hood have a limited lifespan, particularly if the car is parked outside. Apart from eventually going milky/cloudy they develop little cracks at the edge on the fold line, and will eventually split all the way across. As above there are various companies that will remove the hood, replace the windows & re-fit (assuming the hood itself is in good condition). This is my rear window - it split like this literally overnight after having tiny cracks at the edges for perhaps 6 months. There's a fair bit of tension on it when the hood is up.

Hi mate..

I just bought all of the service parts from Eur Car parts.. i got:
8Ltrs of Oil castrol
12 bosch sparks plugs
Oil air and cabin filter all bosch
Transmission fluid

God knows if i even need the sparks plugs but I want to change them for peace of mind.

Total was £292 that's reduced from about £450 with some promo they have

Would using the above from MB and getting genuine parts be cheaper than the above ? I wouldn't have thought so but if so should I get a refund and by genuine? Tbf I've used bosch alot on my mercs and never had a problem. But interested to get the consensus. Cheers
