Hi there,

I have read a lot of talk about the leaking roof seals on the R230 SL causing issues with water ingress into the roof mechanism etc. My car seems fine in this department at present and the boot is dry as is the mechanism itself in the boot.

Is there any visual clue as to whether the seals have been done or not or is it not every one that needs doing, just luck of the draw?

If it is a good idea to change them then when funds allow should I do them as a preventative measure.... I know they are not cheap btw!

Any advice appreciated.

What year is the car?

Yeah should have said that, sorry. It's a 2005.

I think you are on the cusp......could be OK.....check for the seals coming away from the bottom middle of the C pillars and the central area of the main seal below the rear window. You will have to do more than just ''look''......do a little gentle probing with a kitchen spatula or similar.
If they are starting to part company it is a cheap diy fix as a preventative measure (I did mine so it must be easy) as opposed to a main dealer replacing all the seal......£000s

Thanks for the reply. Mine is an early 2005 car so I guess I might be the wrong side of the cusp. Story of my life ;) Anyway do you mean you replaced them with new ones yourself?
