Hmmm...definitely dubious on this one. Some choice snippets:

LHD - ok, fair enough.

1989, so qualifies for classic insurance - Not too sure about that, but...

560 AMG gearbox - You what?

Not really sure about the performance mods - No, and neither are we. Maybe because there aren't any?

YOU WILL NEVER GET A BRABUS FOR THIS SORT OF MONEY AGAIN - no fear of that, because you probably aren't getting one at the moment.

The hood's torn, and it has no end of electrical maladies. The hood mechanism doesn't work, the electric seats are ronnied, along with the passenger window. The relay needed to sort the wipers is £250 alone (Our SL needs one of these at the moment :( ). No mention of a hardtop either.

Must be one of the very very earliest ones ..... on a 'G' plate....

We didn't see them here until 'H' or 'J' did we ?

So, its a Brabus, with an AMG '560' gearbox , Lorinser replica alloys and a Remus exhaust .......

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight ........................

There are a few G-plates, but not that many.

As a young boy, I remember a family friend (who conveniently worked, and still does, at DC) turning up in one of the development 500SL's. I was about 9 or 10 at the time, so chronologically it works out. I also remember dribbling a lot!

Other than the above, there are a few things that need review: The electric hood mechanism (currently opens and shuts manually); the electronic seat adjusters; the passenger electric window; the wiper second speed and the kickdown cable adjustment. These should not represent too much of a problem for a Mercedes mechanic

So, knackered hood mechanism - cost to fix - blank cheque, could be anything.

Seat adjusters - could be as trivial as a fuse?

Passenger electric window - again fuse, or fried/seized motor - cost? £££

Wiper second speed - as said before, either relay (£250) or stalk (£120)

Kickdown cable - could be cable, or could be gearbox.

My mechanic wouldn't touch this car. And he worked on them for 12 years.
