Hi all.
The new interior is in and make the car feel like new as the body work is a1 not a spec of rust anywhere. not even the engine bay under the carpets nothing.

The interior was a silver arrows one and only had 40k when it wrecked.

Alloys are newley refurbed.

Took it out yesterday and someone in an golf gti said ' you look like your from mami vice.... is it quick?'

The child in me proceeded to burn him at the lights. Compared to my s600 the sl60 is brutal. No way the 0-60 time is 5.8 secs. More like 5.
The s600 is so smooth the sl60 is like an animal on take off. Throttle response is immediate, violent even and the noise when it hits hit revs.

Anyways, as this is my dream car and my car for life, im looking at spending some moola on upgrades but i dont want to pimp it either.

The following are on the list.
Lowering Eibach pro springs
sources the best shocks for it.
Upgrade brake discs all round to whatever the best on market is.
Brake Calipers looking at getting that modded and been looking at the idea of butting the 8 piston ones, seen some second hand for a couple of k.
Looking at performance air filers, K&N do a panel filter, but bmc do not, looking at bmc i see they do a CDA kit which means removing the existing housing but it is apparantly the best air kit on market used on lemans etc, but will envolve some modding so im unsure. Looking at £450 quid for that.
Getting an eisenmann custom exhaust back box again around the 1k-1.5k mark. I dont use the sl60 amg only on joy rides. So as winter approached all this will be done as i dont want to go out in the wet.
Also will be gettting a QLSD but that will involve abit of work.
Anyone have experience of any other mod that will keep it an sl60 but make it the best it can be? Or comment on what not to do on my list as i want to make it better but not a boy racer.
Put some michelins on it rears cost me £350 quid each.

R129 93-95 Steering Wheel Sport Birdeye BK Mercedes | eBay

this steering wheel looks good as the one i have is the silver arrows one but its abit tatty and the silver leather isnt the greatest. Was thinking birdeye as the wood trim in the car is brids eye. What you guys think?

Don't bother with the CDA kit, it'll make no difference and be a pig to fit. The stock airbox has good flow and feeds air from the front of the grille, it's not going to be easy to make improvement on it.

Braided hoses for the brakes.

Depending on mileage, consider renewing some or all of the bushes - it's amazing the difference that a fresh suspension setup makes.

yeah spoke to quaiffe and as they don't have dimensions i need get the current diffs dimensions and all the surround bits. Something my mechanic will do. Quaiffe assured me that they can make one to fit but they havent done one yet.

cheers dolph, i think the cda kit is expensive and prob for cars with crap setups already.
The stock airflow is cold air feed anyways so i think ill prob stick some kn airfilters on it.

dolphin you know where i can get a hold of some braided brake hose for the sl60

Fairly sure HEL do a kit, if not I believe Olly has a contact who can make them. I will be fitting a set of HEL lines shortly.

yeah just read up on them, never realized they were an option and what they did. The brakes definetly feel spongy before they bite.

I would not bother with that fake steering wheel, keep an eye for one just like yours but half Black ash wood but they're very rare

When was the fluid last replaced? It should have been replaced no more than two years ago. I have never had any issue of sponginess with my 129 brakes. Indeed I find the standard brakes excellent. Maybe the guys at AMG know a thing or two?

It's not "spongy", but when giving the brakes some stick the SL has always had a progressive pedal travel in comparison to the preferred rapid increase in firmness I had on my Type-R's.

However, after 17 years and 125k, I suspect the flexi hoses are getting a bit squishy now.

Mine has Brake Assist which I find most odd.

Sometimes you need to press hard and other times softly to get the same result. It depends on how quick you go from accellerator to brake it would seem.

I looked at disabling it through Star but the warnings that came up put me off trying it.

brake fluid only just been changed. There is a few cm of play before i get bite 'that is the spongy feel' plus the brakes dont feel nowwhere near the same aggression as the s600, the brakes calipers and disc on the biturbo are about twice the size so that can be expected.

My 1997 (98MY) SL is not at all spongy. I think they are the same brakes I had on my 1991 500SL. My 1991 G300 however is very spongy even with new fluid so braided pipes are the next step.

Same calipers, different discs. I fell foul of this years back when I went to ECP for replacements that didn't fit. Turned out my car has the AMG/V12 setup (at the time) with the larger 320mm handed discs.
