SL60 For Sale - Top Top Money?

I agree the SL600 is a lovely thing but not sure it is worth double a similar SL500.

It just shows that 500 are not a good investment. They never were even modern ones always lose to the AMG or the V12 comes resale time.

I can't say for the masses but my SL500 has increased in value so I'm happy & must be lucky. The previous & first R129 SL500 some years back was similar. They in the main cost less to run compare to AMG versions as well so not really much in it overall.

When cheap run of the mill Fords sell for silly money now when over time become rare & sought after. I would say a good & I mean a good R129 SL500 is such a bad place to have some money tied up.

If SL500 appreciate, SL60/600 would double the money which is what you see.

The price has less to do with being a V12, and more to do with the low mileage.

There's a couple of early 500s with very low miles on the bay. Despite one of them having the steering wheel being on the wrong side, the asking prices are still £15k.

The question is, do they ever sell at asking price or like the OP, are an investment waiting (indefinitely) to get up in price?

I would respectfully disagree with this. As in any commodity, it comes down to supply and demand. That SL600 was the first post 97 (final facelift / gearbox / dash) RHD UK supplied 600 that has hit the market in 6 months. Yes, agreed the mileage was low but I think with any very rare car, which it seems serviceable RHD late SL600s are....condition is equally important. Had I been selling it I would have wanted £30k! :thumb: The only item it was missing was the correct AMG bodykit to go with the wheels. That said....SL600s definitely seem to be in the sellers market just because of scarcity (bias of course!).

500s are definitely going up for late, good examples and they are mutually pushing and being pulled up by 600s and 60s, and from my experience of constantly hunting them... they are selling for £15k+ There may be a dip now but come spring time it will start again, albeit at a higher base price. I think the days of sub 100k mileage, good condition R129 SL500s for under £10k are gone...

I think you missed my point, as your second paragraph draws the same conclusion. Had it not been so low mileage, it would have sold for a price that fits the standard gap between 500s & 600s.

However, if one is in the market of selling, then naturally it's in your interests to talk up the price as much as possible. ;)

Haha! Absolutely not......

I think there will always be a strong market & price for nice spec low miles late R129's in any guise as decent ones are becoming much harder to come by.

I saw plenty of poor examples before I found a decent one.

Tip number one when reading motoring forums:

If someone is talking up a certain cars value, it is guaranteed that they own that model
.

Tip number two when reading motoring forums:

If someone is talking down a particular cars value, it is guaranteed that they are looking to buy that particular model.

Tip number three when reading motoring forums:

The value of facelift Maserati Quattroportes has gone through the roof in the last week or so.

LOL....like it !!

I happen to love QP's...and 4200's, SL500's, XC90's, Freelancer 2's & GTi-6's

Those SL60's & E39 540's & M5's are shockingly hideous things!
