SL60 Help!

you need to carry a really big wallet around as well.

Given that my car was one of, if not the, best left in the country it was good value at around £28k I think - will lose much less in depn than virtually anything else at that price as well (comparable perhaps to a good 993).

Not when he could have bought it off you for £5k less .

Don't touch that yellow one.
Only buy a facelift ('96 on).
Only buy one with the original wheels.
Be prepared to wait as there are only about 30 in the country.
The extra weight over the 500 can only be wheels, tyres, brakes and bodykit as everything else is the same. The engine should weigh the same. 40kgs is nothing on a near 2 ton car and the extra power should be....err...noticeable :D
If you find one you like post up the advert and we'll pick it to pieces

The engine doesn't weigh the same - I know that for a fact. It's not a vast amount of difference and with typically 400bhp pushing you forward it's going to shift longitudinally anyway :D.

Grow up. The engine is almost identical except for a small displacement increase and better cams. +/- 5kgs maybe.

Why grow up? It was a straightforward comment?

I took you for someone quite knowledgable - maybe not :( .

You seem to disagree with everything I post. The engines don't weigh exactly the same. Just near enough not to make any difference.

I'm sorry if you feel that way - it isn't intentional.

As already mentioned - we're only talking about ~40kgs in the whole car so we've established it's not a massive amount of weight. However the engine does weigh more - about 20kgs from memory.

It's not just stroked with a new crank but bored so you have new pistons, con rods, cams, valves, springs and heads, as well as uprated ancillaries.

I will try to find more details.

Is it me, or am I the only one who prefers the look of the pre facelift R129 SL ???!!???.....I'll just get my coat!

Yes, it's just you! :D

The two-tone bodywork and orange indicators don't do it for me - sorry :)

Looks as though I've tracked down a possible.

N plate SL60 "proper" AMG

approx 50000 miles FMBSH

Bodywork and engine good

Grey leather good.

Had 2 owners since new. 2nd (current owner) bought it from his friend 5 years ago.

No problems during his or friends ownership.

Bad bits.

Perspex needs replace in rear window.

No sat nav, but does have a Becker

Original Split Alloys need refurb.

Any thoughts? Not sure of price yet, that's yet to be negotiated, I'm seeing the car in the flesh on Sunday.

Pre or post facelift?

4 or 5 speed gearbox?

What colour?

Just work out what it's worth to you. Bear in mind the cost of the items that need attention and if they add up to (with the purchase price) less than your target price, and you're happy with the car, do a deal :)

I'd imagine with it being such a rare car the chance to be too choosey isn't much, although you obviously don't want a nail for the sake of having one.

Ownership and mileage sounds good, that one thing you can never undo on any car ;)

Good luck with the decision :)

1. not sure...suspect it's on the cusp

2. not sure

3. nice dark blue

All will be revealed on Sunday..... I have only the details I got over the phone...the guy was between meetings....car has not actually been advertised....got the tip from someone who new he was going too sell it....only reason he's selling is that he doesn't get much chance to use it.

Silver - very low spec - has been up for sale a number of times - it didn't have original AMG wheels last time it appeared - he wanted £18k a year ago.

Thought I recognised the number....I think this one is kosher.

Would I be right in thinking that wheel refurb and a new perspex window would be about £850? or is that far out? Also.....can Comand be retro fitted?
If I do get this one I'd like it to be the Mutts Nuts!!

£850 should be about right.

Comand is a big no unless you fancy a lot of work.

I wasn't thinking of doing it myself....:)
