SL60 Help!

The part number for that manual is for a 4-speed car - it doesn't belong to a final series SL60.

Come on...this is getting silly.....there was 4 speed box pre 96 and a 5 speed after....even I know that.

This is beginning to look like two bald guys fighting over a comb!

Play nicely friends :D

Mercedes had no involvement with the 4-speeds. The front cover says Mercedes Benz SL60 AMG of which only 5-speeds were ever made.

That statement is just rubbish. The series 2 & 3 cars were both sold as SL60 AMGS.

”500 SL 6.0 AMG”
First conversion to 6 Litre, based on the R 129.066 fitted with the M 119.960 KE engine.
These with Bosch KE engine control reached 374 hp @ 5.250 rpm and a maximum torque of 550 Nm @ 4.000 rpm.
They used the same Four speed automatic transmission {722.353}, Differential ratio and brakes as the 5 Litre cars. The tires, mounted on three-piece AMG rims {8 ½ x 17 ET 18 – 10 x 17 ET 17} have a size of 255/40 ZR 17 – 255/55 ZR 17.
This car have been built between September 91’ and August 93’.

”SL 60 AMG
The second series, built between September 93’ and December 95’ used the M 119.972 LH engine with Bosch LH engine control. Those engines, as those of the “E 60”, reached 381 hp @ 5.500 rpm. {580 Nm @ 3.750rpm}. This series still uses the same Front an rear brakes as those fitted on the serial “500 SL”, also have been changed to a larger diameter.
The automatic gearbox was replaced by the 722.364, still having 4 Speeds.

”SL 60 AMG
The last series was built between have been April 196 and May 98.
Now the M 119.982 with Bosch ME engine control was converted, but the output was unchanged. The gearbox was replaced by the new five speed automatic transmission, rims have had 18” diameter, the size of the tires reached 245/40 ZR 18 – 275/35 ZR 18.

AMG Aerodynamic Body kit have been fitted to all official converted cars.

What I said was only the 96-98 (5-speeds) where 'Mercedes Benz SL60AMGs' (as per the owners manual). The early 4 speeds were simply 'SL60AMGs'.
So, my statement was not 'rubbish'.

Stats, you are and always have been confrontational. UK supplied 1996-98 SL60s were quoted with a kerb weight of 1800kgs. I'm interested to know what the quoted kerb weight of the SL500 was in comparison. Simple as.

Factual - there is a difference.

Which is why
UK supplied 1996-98 SL60s were quoted with a kerb weight of 1800kgs
is wrong.

You crazy guys .....

:D

Nice arrows Stats..

Would you like a bow to go with them.?

Well the kerbweight for my SL500 (1997, 5 Speed) is ... 1910 kg. On that basis the SL60 is a mere 20 kg heavier, which is where we started out. The other models given in my handbook are:

SL280 - 1830 kg
SL320 - 1850 kg
SL600 - 2050 kg

I was going to scan it, but couldn't do so easily without a risk of breaking the spine :)

One other interesting fact ... the SL600 can't be fitted with a towbar (but all the others can)?!

Well there's a reason not to buy it......damn it ...it won't tow my caravan !!

Oh yes ... other snippet from the handbook, in 1997 the SL280 was still available as a 5 speed manual.

The others are rated for 1575 kg (braked) with a 75 kg noseweight ... which is pretty respectable!

Sorry if my irony was shielded (or invisible).......but I tend, (probably unfairly) to have a Clarksonian view on Caravans..........:D

I don't think an SL500 towing a caravan would hold you up too much :D

All depends on the driver though, as mentioned before I overtook a Porsche 911 on an unrestricted single carriageway road a few years ago ... while towing my caravan

With the V6 Sharan that is, not the SL :)

... while towing my caravan

Oh dear.....I always knew Clarksonion thinking would get me into trouble one day......there was a guy called Gallileo......they didn't believe him either ...:D :D
