Hi

Looking into changing my car and was wondering whether the SLK 1.8 have any problems that I should be looking out for I am looking for 2012 onwards.

Many thanks

Terry

Not many issues I have heard of, daughter has 2010 model for a few years now no issues at all.

Meant to have asked about any leaks particularly regarding the roof like the SL's.

The engine is a but gruff in 250 guise.

Ours creaks a little from roof, leak was fixed under warranty although, in reality, it's been moved to a new spot but only shows up under pressure in a car wash, rain doesn't get in.

Like most modern MB the dash is cluttered with very small buttons, for example you'd rarely hit the right button for the rear demist unless you look down.

Steering quite heavy.

Obviously check roof operation several times, check roof seals for wear or damage and also check the boot area for any signs of damp.

The only you may find is a relative lack of performance after a 350 and, if you are tall or wide, a rather cramped cabin.

I thought like the SL R231 roof issues and leaks were fixed in the newer 2012 SLK models?

I suppose with any complex folding mechanism there is the potential especially as seals wear, harden etc?

Many thanks for your replies - think I will steer clear.

You may like them but any complex mechanism can and will cause issues as they age. I am around 6 foot 3 and found them impossible to get comfortable in. The lazier performance of th 1.8 may suit the car..........

If the car is equipped with the M271 engine (4-Cyl petrol engine used by MB between 2003 and 2012), them Google "M271 timing chain".

The M271 1.8L engine was replaced by the M274 1.6L in 2013 and then by the M274 2.0L in 2014 - the M274 does not suffer from these timing chain issues.
