Hi all, while driving on the motorway tonight my SLK seemed to have hardly any power at all, I literally had my foot to the floor and it slowly climbed to around 70mph but felt like it had no more to offer. Also wouldn't kick down unless I pushed my foot right down on the switch under the accelerator pedal. After a while the car started running like a bag of nails. I turned off the ignition and restarted the car, and it ran better but still no power. I have replaced the MAF sensor, spark plugs, air filter and added a fuel treatment in the last 4 months. Any ideas?

Cheers!

Has the engine light come on yet ? The problem could be the secondary air injection system . With this fault the engine light will not come on stright away but after a few days it will . When the light comes on the usual codes are P2036 and P0410 . If this is the case than the frist component that would normaly be changed is the check valve , this is a service item that should be changed every 50k . If this is changed and the fault reacours then it is probably the air recirulation flap , these are known to cause trouble and cost around £500 . Hope this helps

They are difficult to diagnose but the advice above is spot on.

There is no light on yet, car seems to be running ok now, but still no power. I am getting the codes read this week so hope to find out more then! :(

The supercharged 3.2 has what would appear to be the same symptoms when the intercooler pump fails. Would this apply to the supercharged 2.3 engine too Olly?

Where is the check valve ?
The check valve is located at the back of the engine on the 200k , I think that it is on the left side of the 230k . It connects to a pipe that branches of the air intake .

I'm trying to locate the part number for this item for my CLK230K. Been looking at the .ru site but the part seems a little elusive, to my eyes at least :(

Any pointers, or even the correct part number (which I assume would most likely be common between the SLK230K and the CLK230K) would be helpful.

Is the check valve, the valve that allows air to pass directly from the airbox to the intake, bypassing the supercharger on idle / low revs but on higher revs routes the air via the supercharger ?

No thats not the check valve, that the air recirulation flap . The check valve is a one-way valve that connects the air intake to tha cats , its for cold start . The part numer is A0004701393 . On the E200 a 27mm crow-foot spanner is needed to remove it because access is limited at the back of the engine . There is a tread on MB world showing the location of the valve on a 230 , search P2036
