Hi
Just become owner of a SLK 320 manual 2002 Convertable and this being my first Mercedes.
I am curious about the fan running during tickover after the car has warmed up after say approx 15 miles or so.
Its quite noisey and stops when the ignition is turned off or when you are on the move again at a decent speed so I presume it not thermostat related.
Is this a normal characteristic of the cars engine.
Thanks for any feedback

Tex

Hi Texkeen and welcome to the forum! Not sure if the fan setup on your car is the same as mine, but I have two fans in front of the radiator. One is for the engine and the other is for the air con. Are you sure the 'noisier' fan isn't just the ac one, as when my ac is on the secondary fan is a little noisy. Try turning the ac off (if you have it on) if not I'm the fellow memebers will be able to advise you.

Thanks for the welcome
I will try your advise later ,as you mentioned the A/C I do have it and notice no change in the engine revs when on or off.
Does it use more fuel with the a/c on as the on /off switch seems to be set to stay on with light off which s opposite to most cars I have had where on is with the light on. IF that makes sense.

Yes, the light is on when the ac is off...It's known as 'EC' or economy mode. On an engine of your size, having the ac on will probably reduce fuel economy marginally, perhaps by one mile per gallon, so I wouldn't really worry about it.
