Unfortunately I have found myself thinking the unthinkable and selling the 2003 plate SLK 32 within the next year. According to Glass's guide I'm looking at £11k trade or £13k for a private sale. Can anyone advise how much it is likely to depreciate if I wait until next summer? Appreciate there's an element of "Crystal Ball" to this! Thanks in advance

What i normally do is look at the price now say 2002 and the cheapest and the dearest, see what spec's, does yours have anything extra, is the colour popular, condition of the car, all MB service History,Mileage how many owners and so on, if you think yours is the best ,add about a thousand pound or nearest offers, , its what people want at that giving time, you could put it on a week later and get many more calls then the first week and sell it, i use the auto-trader for guide lines, i always buy a convertible within the 4 months of the year cheaper then say summer , they go up from anything £500 and £1k+ when its sunny..my car has the basic engine 200k but i have never seen one with my interior yet, so to me mine is different and special in my eyes,, nobody can give you realistic a price, dealers want to make a profit so will tell you less, a private buyer is the best as you can explain to buyer all about your cherished car, a dealer is not interested in your cars life as he isnt keeping your car, my car was bought from a dealer , but the guy who own it (before me)was there looking for another car , he didnt buy one,but gave me the run down on my car, i felt better and bought the car.......so the eaiser the answer is try and sell ask what you want and add a ono (or nearest offer).. there will many idea's, but at the end of the day ,you are the only person who will sell or you maybe never happy............:D

Wow! And that's just one sentence. Only Neil Kinnock could do a longer one.:D

As its a rather special SLK, I would guess that its going to appeal to rather small, yet reasonably flush potential market. And as such might do better than a "normal" 200 or 230. Thats my thoughts.
I doubt whether another year will make a big difference, maybe £1K less.
Just my feelings on the subject.

I'd say nearer to £1.5-2k in 1 years time, as IMHO the old shape SLK looks rather dated compared to the newer SLK.

But like others have said the SLK 32, is a specialist car, so you may find the right buyer and be pleasantly suprised by its value.

Speaking as a fellow owner, and having had my SLK32 from new here is my two penny worth.

If you do elect to sell, it might just be something you’ll look back on in the future and regret. It’s surprising the amount of people I've spoken to who, after changing for a later car look back and pull a face, then a wince, followed by a rueful, “I wish I hadn’t sold it.” (I did precisely that with my Cobra).

Value wise I believe the car will bottom out as far as residuals are concerned, given this is a specialist car and not a standard production SLK, (No offence intended to 200, 230, 320, or other non SLK AMG cars). In view of that, our cars will appeal as pointed out by others, albeit to a somewhat select market or course, but at the same time a discerning market, therefore maybe considered an advantage.

If it’s about investment, how many of us buy cars as an investment or to speculate on? We buy them because on the whole they push our respective buttons, certainly was in my case and certainly not to impress others. If it’s about values, remember this is not remotely like a standard R170 SLK, and has little in common with its stable mates, aside from looks at first glance. I believe the values will recover in time, but not in the short term. That said mines a keeper so I'm not bothered.

If it’s about change I drove both the SL55AMG (Stunning), and SLK55AMG, (not so stunning), both very different animals in their own right and given the choice I’d have the SL all day long. However, if I was to draw a direct comparison between the SLK55AMG and the SLK32AMG, the 32AMG has more sparkle. Sure the later car has better steering, and it has air scarf, but hey so what? Neither do we have command or a multi function steering wheels, or telephone pre-wire, (I have all that in my CLK to hopefully not go wrong, though that said I've had two new front seats already, but that’s another story). No, what we do have is a stonking supercharged V6 engine, and a pretty reliable well sorted car, one that always puts a smile not just on my face, but also my passengers faces who are always staggered at the experience. :thumb:

My advice is take the slap on the values and keep the car and buy another vehicle as I’ve done. You want to blow the cobwebs out of your hair? Go for a blast in the 32, does it for me every time and that is after 7 years ownership and 37,000 fun filled miles. :D

If this is because of residuals, and looking to trade it in against another car then that has to be respected of course. That said, think about this: Bang per buck and cost of maintenance taken into consideration and not forgetting the all important fun factor, there isn't much better value out there. An AMG convertible, (never mind the rarity), 4.5 sec 0-60 performance figures that few cars can touch, (aside from Hyper cars), and all that for less than a brand new fully loaded VW polo? It’s a no brainer!

I wish you the very best of luck in whatever you decide
Best Regards ;)

interesting comments on "AMG".

Watched a episode of "TOP GEAR " last night and the ealmighty Clarkston quoted that if all 85,000 engines P.A were hand built from start to finish that wold take considerable time and manpower. So are they really all that special to an normal built engine?

They charge more than enough to cover the cost of hand assembly. Nobody should accuse without proof.
