SLK Secondhand or new?

The favourite turns out not to be entirely what it seems, being a Belgian import, thus lacking some equipment like memory seats. Back to the drawing board....

Colin.

On a unlit country lane however, they are by far worth more than the money you pay for them. Round by me, on my way to work now, I travel 4miles on unlit A road. I made sure this car I have now, came with Xenons due to the sheer ability to illuminate the road far better than Halogens. And SLK's come with Bi-xenons so that means you full beam is produced with the same intensity.
I was amazed to read how some folks couldn't tell the difference, or did not think they were value for money until I read Scumbag's post. We tend to assume we all live in the same enviroment where we have roads without street lighting. On a modern Mercedes-Benz with these lights fitted as a factory option then they far outshine:rolleyes: :) the halogen light, but obviously in town lighting that Scumbag has mentioned it doesn't matter what lights you have. Bi-xenons, or xenons would be my first option of choice and perhaps they should be fitted as standard?

Regards
John

I like my Bi-xenons but could live with projector halogens which I had on my previous car as they were just about as good.

The downside of the Bi-xenons is that on a dark road the reflection from a roadsign (especially a large one) can dazzle. There seems to be a coating on roadsigns these days that reflects light back in exactly the direction from which it came (small prisms?).

Bought my SLK200 in December from MB new. Negotiated a reasonable discount, the car has all the options you need including leather, folding mirrors etc. I pay £500 PM and had to put £3K down initially. As previously discussed in this thread, it's worth getting a PCP quote on the web and taking this to the dealer. The only thing I regret is not picking the car up from Germany. I looked at used 350's, easy to let the heart rule the head with this one, the power is awesome. However I still get a good kick when I turn out of my drive, onto the main road and put my foot down in the 200. Running costs e.g. petrol and insurance are lower too. Would have been nice to have some sun this summer to enjoy the car! :(

Thanks for the advice, particularly about the PCP, I've been considering that. My annual mileage is around 10-11k per year, so the extra fuel costs of the 350 won't be considerable - the insurance is about 45 quid more for the 350 than a 200, and road tax about 100, so manageable. I think if I bought a 200 I'd regret not getting the bigger engine.

I've found a suitable car, now just getting the deal right:)

Colin.

Right, deal done. SLK 350, as near to my original spec as I could find...

Haven't actually seen the car yet, but one very similar...

Eventually went for a PCP deal after a fair bit of haggling:) Should get the car by the end of the month:)

Thanks to everyone for the advice and experience, certainly helped me get the car and price I was after.

I was supposed to collect the 350 tomorrow, but it won't be ready until Friday, when they will deliver it, and pick up the nice shiny new 280 they have lent me:)

First impressions after a hundred miles or so - in glorious sunshine - great. Easy to drive, excellent auto box, no rattles or flexing and excellent performance. The roof is great fun, particularly down, as you can hear the exhausts:)

Long may the sun shine...

Colin.

Good luck with the car Colin and heres to many many miles of trouble free motoring ;)

Having just read the thread, i was quite interested in the mileage SLK owners have. Mine is a 04 SLK 200 - plenty fast enough thank you :D Which I have owned for almost 2 years now. She has just completed 40,000 trouble free miles, but when compared to most she may be rather high? I use her for commuting from Cheltenham to my home in Derby weekly and have completed numerous tours (roof down when possible). Main one being a driving holiday to Italy and France. Got tonnes of smiles and waves from our European cousins and even stopped at the Austrian border, so that they could have a "neb"

Soon to go unfortunately, new posting means company car ha ! Military focus estate, but we cant have it all, right ?
:)

:bannana: Just bought an SLK.

Very excited.

Finally settled for an SLK200 Bentitoite Blue with Alpaca Gray interior, Auto box. 6 months old with 2.5K on the clock. Options: Parktronic, upgraded alloys, telephone pre-wire, Airscarf with heated seats, interior lighting.

We have tried about 5 vehicles and was quite suprised at the differences in terms of ride and performance for seamingly identical vehicles. I tried a 280 lots of power but found the ride was not to our liking. Tried 3x SLK200 and found one with an engine that was rubbish, hence trying a 280 but then tried an other 200 and it had loads of go! So once we discovered a bit of variability between the vehicles we then decided to test drive each one. I guess the variability came from suspension, wheels, tyres, and if the car was made on Friday etc. Very happy with the 200 I recognise it is not a rocket ship (more a fighter jet) but it does have plenty of power, lower on the tax and has very respectable fuel economy. I ended up looking on the MB website daily for vehicles as keen priced ones seemed to sell in about 2 days! We also ended up travelling up and down the country to look at vehicles.

Only disappointment seems to be the standard Audio20 sound system which comes out of the stone age, from what I gather you can not play mp3 cds on it and can not put an ipod kit on the system. I have comand in my E Class but just could not justify it for this vehicle.

If anyone has any good mods I can implement let me know...

Congrat's:rock:

Congrats on the new ride! I agree with you on the Audio20 - my only regret with mine.
