Thought I'd give a quick update on the progress of my SLK, now I've had it for six months.

In a word - excellent!

The engine is getting better, quieter, quicker and a tad more frugal (although I've never achieved the figures quoted), I'm nudging ever closer to an average of 40mpg.

So far it's still rock solid with not a squeak, rattle or groan no matter how rough the road surface. I manage to get the roof down a lot, even recently in 8 degrees. :)

I'm still paranoid about kerbing the lovely AMG wheels and parking the car as far from others as possible at car parks - but then I'm like that with all my cars! :D

Because it's a "toy" really, it still feels very special and I look forward to driving it, often just taking it out for a blast round the lanes and hills, for the fun of it.

Was it a good choice? A resounding yes! I wouldn't have it as my only car, but as a second, fun car, I whole heartedly recommend it!

Thanks for the update.

I know what you mean about second cars as toys. My wife's SLK350 is just that and after four-and-a-half years of ownership I still really enjoy finding reasons to drive it :thumb:

SWMBO kerbed one of the rears the other day, being nearly forced off the road by a t*t coming the other way in the middle of the road:eek:

The damage isn't too deep but it extends half way round the rim on the edge nearest the tyre.
This edge is polished rather than painted and I wondered if it is possible to flatten the damage with wet & dry paper:dk: Or is there a lacquer coat that will now start to flake?

I used wet and dry on my alloys , followed by t-cut , then brasso. Finished with a couple of coats of clear lacquer. ( my alloys are 30+ years old).

Might be enough to avoid the MB charges when the car is returned - depends how much more damage she does in the next couple of years:doh:
