ex C320CDI, ex SLK200K, Sharing Their Saxo 1.1i !!, Her SLK200K, His ZX6R
Before mt C320CDI I had a ML270 with an "experiences" off road day. She has a SLK200K and wants an SLK trackday. Know of any options?

One thought ... I imagine you'd have to take out special insurance - a standard policy surely wouldn't cover any kind of track use?

Not sure if there are any SLK trackdays. Do you mean a day where you have instruction as to how to get the best from the car? If you just wnt to drive you can go along to any track day. I went on an Autocar day at Bedford, nice track, some instruction but not one-to-one in the car, and you had all types of car from 911 turbos to Mini Ones. There was a guy in a C320 (petrol) when I was there.

But I think most track days are off now until the spring.

that would be ideal if available

We got my son a driving experience for his birthday last year. It included 3 laps in a Mercedes SLK350, I dont think it's available on its own, only as part of a package, but you could ask.

This is a useful website:

If that's no help for tutored days, try ringing your local track - most have there own set ups and they'll be able to talk you through what's available.

Track days

Motorsport Events run good UK trackdays and they're pretty strong on driver etiquette and overall behaviour. They also have good instructors. I would recommend them for anyone who might feel intimidated at the prospect of being on track with "faster" cars. Lots of their days are on airfields and the circuits are very carefully coned out with nothing to hit. Motorsport Events also do Academy days

Two other good companies are Easytrack and Bookatrack. They both run excellent days, mainly on race tracks, and also have instructors present

These companies are all serious track day companies, are members of the governing body and employ ARDS (race) instructors. Sometimes there are hire cars available but the days are normally setup for you to drive your own car

Some policies cover track days and some don't. You can buy cover for the day from a number of dedicated insurers and the organisers of the day should be able to help. I've never seen an accident on an airfield day but I've seen someone write off an Escort Cosworth at Donington Park. He had insurance

I don't think there's any problem running a well-maintained road car on a track day. It's only really hard on brakes & tyres if you want it to be. You can explore the limits of your car and/or ability and learn a lot without shredding tyres. The drive home afterwards is remarkable - it's amazing how different you feel at the wheel!

I think everyone should do a few track days to learn what their car is capable of and to become more confident
