Hi, I have a 2000 facelift SLK230 6sp manual. The back box has started to blow very slightly on the top seam. Unfortunately the flange where it meets the catalyst section is badly corroded and would most likely need replacing too.
I am having great difficulty finding a replacement at a reasonable price. For the full system Mercedes are about £800. Autoelite in Hull can fit a non OEM ONE FOR £660.
Longlife can build a stainless system for just under £600 but with a warning of additional noise.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Mark

How about a remus back box ? If like the clk they cut your rear pipe after the resonator and the remus fits from there ?

I'm having this exact problem on a CLK 230k. Try Tony Banks Exhausts in Leeds I'm going to see him Friday to have a chat reckons cat back exhaust on CLK no additional noise £285 INC vat fitted in stainless. Exhausts UK who I normally use want £450 but cant guarantee noise levels. £285 seems a bit cheap but we'll see what Friday brings, I'll keep you posted.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Let me know how you get on with the back box in leeds.
Unfortunately the resonator is also well corroded as well as the pipe and flange where it meets the back box.

Cheers,
Mark

Just got a reply from Tony Banks £299 for the back box and £149 for the catalyst. Much cheaper than others I've tried and he's only a 60mile drive away.

+ VAT but including fitting.

They are doing mine next Wednesday Cat back to MB dimensions but in Stainless £249 or £299 inc VAT & Fitting depending what grade stainless I go for , one carries a 10 year guarantee the other a lifetime guarantee.

It's the only exhaust place I have spoken to that could answer all my questions relating to flow, torque and back pressure so I have high hopes will let you know how I get on

Hi,
just wondering how you got on at Tony Banks?
Cheers,
Mark

I was just going to put up a separate thread, never have I been so impressed with the professionalism of an outfit, first class. My car went in at 9am Wednesday morning for a cat back exhaust, chose my tail pipe design and agreed price £266 inc VAT, fitter Dave was very knowledgeable and Julie just as knowledgeable on the mechanical and technical stuff. I had JSWMBO with me so we headed into Leeds for her to do a bit of shopping and get some lunch. I'd only been away from the place 30 mins when the phone went, It was Dave the fitter he had the old exhaust off but had noticed the cat was in bad shape with parts of it lodged in the resonator so he advised replacement, so I sat down and awaited the price to manufacture and fit a full exhaust including a 200 cell sports cat was £366 only an extra £100 for the front pipe and cat. What a bargain, so I told them to get on with it. Phone rang at 12:30 car done been road tested emissions checked and all was perfect. I went back to collect it and it was a work of art. I went for the non polished stainless all welds are really good and the car sounds and performs perfectly in fact its never run better. Not had chance to take any pics yet due to the weather and storms, but those who were at our curry GTG last night will confirm how well it sounds and looks.

In short I would not hesitate to recommend Tony Banks professional and courteous engineering at it's best.

Will post some pics soon

Hi Flanaia1,
thank you very much. I will certainly be making the trip to Tony Banks.

I'm sure you wont be disappointed, they also have a courtesy car you can book if you want, but a taxi from their place to Leeds centre (which they arranged with Amber Taxis) was only £6 I called Amber for the return journey and again a surprising £6, a taxi the same distance in Doncaster is about £16

Good luck with yours :thumb:
