Photographers have caught the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Europe.

Virtually identical to the coupe, the Roadster will loose its trademark gullwing doors and fixed roof. Despite this, Mercedes will add numerous chassis reinforcements to ensure the sporty handling remains intact.

Power will be provided by a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter (6,208cc) V8 engine that produces 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 Nm of torque. While it will weigh slightly more than the coupe (due to the aforementioned chassis reinforcements), the Roadster should be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately four seconds, before hitting a top speed somewhere in the neighborhood of 309 km/h (192 mph).

Look for the SLS AMG Roadster to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.

Same as SLS, but with no roof. What is there to get excited about? :D

I don't get this, why is this better than an SL?

Its not meant to be better or worse, its a convertible rather than a coupe :D

This car was always about the Gullwing doors, it has no unique selling point (other than it being a Merc) now. :/

The worst thing about this is it made me use the phrase "unique selling point".

The lame attempts at disguise have become ever more half-ar$ed!

The silver/red one was funny enough (now I wonder what car that could be?) but the black one is simply hilarious. Carefully covered bonnet badge, but look only 6 inches lower and - doh! - the full grille blade in its glory, complete with dinner plate-sized star.

What car was it again?

Pre launch politics...they aren't really disguises, but they must be worn.

Silly attempts to cover it up. The roadster looks good but the hardtop with the doors is much better imo.
